The move is part of the 15 year decommissioning of the San Onofre Powerplant. The waste parts including this cone is bound for Utah. as part of a $4billion project. The Kasgro group will be back. This is not the first or last time this will be seen in So Cal.

AS of 4 PM 5/29 it is setting on a siding at Apex, NV about 10 miles north of Las Vegas, but no sign of a crane yet I don't think any one in Vegas has one that can lift that much. They had to build a new siding off the Main and a large pad and ramp as the Main is about 8 to 9 feet above the road in that area a lot of work and gravel went in to it. Are gravel pit is out that way not working tomorrow, but might go out there and see what's going on. Will up date if I see anything new and get some vids.

Its probably one of the inner vessels from the decommissioned San Onofre nuclear power plant south of San Clemente..... Everyone in SoCal sees the cost of that oopsie engineering mistake each month on our electric bill.... there was a missed design flaw that lead to the closure of the whole plant after years of finger pointing. Edison said consumers should shoulder part of the cost.....

The Schnabel looks like it might be the former WECX 800 that Fast Flying Virginian once recorded with its bigger brother WECX 801 running empty on the ex-PRR main line a few years back.

Yes this is Kasgro's KRL 3600. It and its twin KRL 3601 were purchased from Westinghouse (WECX 800 and 801 like you mentioned).

It's a reactor containment vessel, can't really use that for terrorism purposes easily compared to spent nuclear fuel.

it is waste, that company specializes in removal of deactivated nuclear reactors, they take the waste encapsulate it and seal it and seal up reactors and transport them to storage sites and take down the rest of the facility. video on their site shows them sealing a reactor core in a huge concrete slug and it looked just like whats in this video.

That's a retired reactor. The lead casing probably accounts for 2/3 the weight. I'd bet at least 1 1/2 million pounds.

Largest load I deigned and was shipped on a similar car in Germany was a 360 tonne (792,000 lb) steel plate mill roll with a 2.4m diameter by 6m barrel, 11.5m overall for steel mills in China. Used in pairs per stand with 2 pair for a mill startup. About $2m each at the time.

Note to admin: Y'all pan and zoom way too much imo. The best lighting and angle was at about 12:26. Would've been great just to zoom out a tad and lay off the pan and zoom at that point. Instead, once the "star of the show" was in the frame, the angle was so oblique and the train so far away, details were completely indiscernible. We can always pause/ go back later -- you don't need to track/pace the train. Panning for a few seconds on engines and/or rolling stock of interest is great, but please return to a static, lateral view until the train has passed. I still gave it a thumbs up, though. Thanks for uploading.

Movement of parts of the nuclear power generation station, from San Onofre, CA. It's not "waste", as in spent fuel rods. It's parts that handled cooling water and has been exposed to irradiated water, and therefore these reactor parts are contaminated and have to be handled with precise means.
