@@thomaspick4123 that's a racist thing to say. Maybe his parents were born here or maybe he was. Foreigners do go to medical schools in this country and americans go to medical schools in other countries. Maybe he was given a free ride and maybe not, as americans sometimes are. How do you know he is not serving the underprivileged sector ? I see a lot of this sort of thing happening. I just met a vietnamese doctor not long ago, as a matter of fact, and was quite nice. Maybe you have bad memories of the 70's. I don't know, but your remark seems quite crude.

F Zee , me too. This panic is ridiculous compared to the flu. Once the warm weather hits this MAY all be in the rear view mirror. Surprisingly Africa has very few cases of the virus’s and countries like Kenya never shut down travel. This is baffling researchers. UPDATED. Like others, I was wrong. The panic was warranted to get the alarm out. Africa and South America are still curious in terms of numbers, if you believe them

You should pay attention not to sneeze or to cough on your keyboard. Wash your hands before you change a disk! Otherwise, since all components are connected with the motherboard, possible contamination will spread over your hardware and infect your OS. Security-softwares cover many viruses, but not all.

@@arungupta9265 If the virus can remain infectious from contact with metal and cardboard, I would think contact with a body will contaminate the person (a mortician?) with 2019-nCoV virus. So yeah, I reckon you can probably get the virus that way. This disease is way beyond a garden variety epidemic, it has crossed species like that Detroit(?) zoo tiger. 2019-nCoV virus originally crossed from bats and/or birds in China and mutated or something, then infected humans. What's dreadful to think about is how that suggests this species hopping virus adaptation then could extend infection to life in the sea, to seals, to whales and dolphins, then to fish, back to sea birds, back to humans and other terrestrial mammals... the virus potentially attacks everything, short of insects, and I don't know for sure even about those either. Its not a good sign. Plants might be okay.

I work for a transit agency who gave the drivers packages of antibacterial wipes a few weeks ago. I read the label which said no alcohol content :( My SO brought home some similar hand sanitizer yesterday. No alcohol in it. "Antibacterial" on the label. I wish more people had some education like this.

My question is what is the evolutionary history of viruses. Fungal? Bacteria? or even things like proteins?

Very Soon, I hope to teach science that any and everyone, as long as they finish high school, can understand. I can teach you so much in a super simple way, that you will never feel like you should have taken a lot of science courses to understand them or be BSed by scientists or other "professionals". And, I'll focus on teaching science that you can use.

Thank you for enlightening us who have a very limited to zero knowledge about the difference between bacteria and virus. Yes, you're able to answer my question that kept bugging me for years what is actually a virus. So getting rid of viral infection is really very simple way but can be very deadly if it gets into your system. God bless you!

They can't live on their own. Still, they can survive 10 hours without a host cell. If they find a host cell, they can "live". If they don't find a host cell within few hours (depends on the virus type), they don't survive.

Bshara Sakas but if they are not living, they wouldn’t be “surviving”

@@132allie It's hard to define the verb "living". Is a fetus that's born in the 7th month living or surviving? Is surviving living in this case? I think that if an organism lives by its own and without a help, that's living. If it needs another organism's habitat to live, then it can only "survive" for some time before dying. You can say that surviving in this case is also living, but I prefer the definition I've mentioned..

Bshara Sakas ok, yes, that’s a fair explanation. Of course to me a fetus is living from the time of conception.
