VIS Balance Shaft Delete! 8k+ RPM Redline | MK6 Golf R

Deleted my balance shafts so that I can increase my redline up to 8000 RPM or higher! I do already have titanium valve springs and retainers, as well as a few other mods to increase the rev limit.

It is good to use this on a good balance shaft unit not a damaged or worn out one so that your oil pressure is not affected

There's a hole specifically for locking out the oil pump wheel so you can torque it 👍🏻

Oh really? So do you mean there's a second hole different than the one I used for the VIS sprocket? I couldn't find a second hole. The one I used to counter hold the VIS sprocket would've worked for the oil pump sprocket too if I was installing OEM sprockets, but the free wheel makes the hole in the video unusable for the oil pump sprocket. Hopefully I asked that question clearly.

So hard to find quality material on the B7 platform which has the same engine but longitudinal. Probably only happened to me but the tip of my screwdriver snapped off holding the balance shafts while doing the 90deg!!! Didn’t plan on removing the whole lot to retrieve it. If the pump isn’t fitted to the engine then drop a socket between the balance shafts to lock them up for doing up the new bolt 😁

Iv got a golf mk6 R it’s in being built fully forged top to bottom but only running a G25-660 turbo as it’s the set up for fast street racing but if i ever chose to run bigger I’ll get bigger,but tbh for what i need the G25-660 will be real good for me,I’ll see about 555 bhp ish and very good torque because I’m running the RS3 7 Speed dsg box that can take up to 1000ft/lb where as the DQ250 is only good for 450ft/lb ish but hopefully you’ll be doing more videos Vlogs ect as these Mk6 Rs are the best shape golf’s imo

Lol it's a little sketchy anytime I do something for the first time. There's definitely some more NVH from this mod, and the severity depends on how stiff your mounts are 👍🏻I would say the SMF mainly adds noise and driveline harshness whereas the balance shaft delete mainly adds vibration, so different kinds of NVH

Yeah I just did mine. Absolutely atrocious driving the car now. If you don’t plan on revving over 7000 it’s useless. Plus these cars make all the torque down low anyways. Don’t reccomend.

Yes it will. The stiffer your mounts, the more noticeable they'll be.

I'd replace the oil pump assembly if you're worried about failure at high mileage, but if you're looking to increase your rev range then I'd look at this free wheel. I didn't have stiff engine mounts so the vibrations did noticeably increase but they weren't bad. If you have very stiff engine mounts then there will be a considerable amount of added vibration.

When you do the freewheel, there is no need. The only time welding the galleries is needed is when you remove damaged shafts. Also this freewheel won't help if your shafts are already damaged. Preventative only

I think he’s saying: without the balance shafts rotating, you will lose oil pressure by the oil coming out of the holes that lubricate them, therefore block the feed to the balance shafts.

Shafts are connected on the inside just stick the screw driver in the same hole you did for the other cog to do the oil cog up!Lol

Right but the oil pump doesn't spin when you tighten that bolt down...the freewheel on the sprocket does. Sticking a screwdriver in that hole won't stop the freewheel from spinning, that's the whole purpose of this mod haha.

It sure is! I'm a big fan of not needing to cut the gears out. This is definitely the easiest option out there for "deleting" the shafts. Yeah, the balance shafts are definitely a parasitic drain on your power so that's a nice added bonus. The biggest benefit of this solution is probably its reversibility but I don't foresee myself ever uninstalling this. With this being my first car and having learned so much and poured so much of myself into it, I don't plan to ever get rid of it.

I am at the same place as you are and still learning but a guy on a forum was saying that is has its drawbacks such as bigger vibrations and for street use it kinda shortens its life. From my understanding you might not have those gears and shafts holding the pistons back to do their job but it’s kinda like dead weight to the engines mass. What would happen if you’d pull them out completely?

From my understand the oil pump isn't "timed" with respect to the crank, if that's what you're asking. So the position of the chain doesn't really matter.

The 8p S3 has the same ea113 motor so yes everything should be identical. You may just have an oil pressure sensor in your pan but that won't affect any of the steps in this video. It's good so far man, I don't think there was much added vibration/harshness at all but I think it comes down to your motor mounts, my mounts aren't aggressive.

I think you're better off just buying a replacement oil pump/balance shaft assembly. I have a spare one if you're interested, it'll be cheaper than deleting the balance shafts and you won't need to deal with increased vibration. You can find me as Fazed Golfr on Facebook or fazed.yt on Instagram

Lost two bolts on a 1.8t with the same issue with the bolts falling in to the housing. Just used a hammer and kept tapping the housing till they jumped out lol.

@@dxmnc yes at idle the pump pumps less hence lo pressure at sensor wich is higher in the motor. I Bought a nice original pump on ebay from a guy in Florida that inspects cleans and actually gives you all the hardware for $220. also check your connecting rod wich is the most dangerous failure you could have . Also if you've been driving with low pressure most likely they have wear and you could be losing pressure there also

No, the mk6 gti has a TSI EA888 engine. This is for FSI EA113 engines such as mk5 gti, mk6 golf r, 8p a3/S3, mk2 tts.

Yeesh , you put that prybar on the plastic chain guide to hold the sprocket while tightening.. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT EVER pry against that.

The stock damper helps most at idle and low RPM, whereas this damper helps most at high RPM. So, you'll have some increased vibration at idle but a smoother engine at high RPM. I've found that the increase in low-RPM vibration is barely noticeable but it largely depends on how stiff your mounts are.

Your gti is stock? So the point of the balance shaft delete is to prevent them from seizing when revving near 8k RPM. There wouldn't be any point in installing this on a stock gti bc it can't safely rev that high

There is a point cuz the stock sprocket will fail one day as it did on mine and does on all 2.0tfsi engines then the chain will break and you will lose oil pressure.
