Hi Marsha, after many many hours of researching youtube on whether to live in Spain or Portugal, you are the best of them all! You spell it out clearly. Spain it is.

With non lucrative- as a retired person, I was thinking I’d need to show $28,000 as passive income, but according to your slide, it’s an either/or thing. Since my early SS (I’m 65 and have to wait 2 years for full SS, and I could wait till 70 and get more) I thought I couldn’t qualify unless I put my 401k savings in a risky annuity to give a steady income. But it seems your one bullet point seems to indicate, for example, if I just kept a minimum of $32k in an account THERE (I assume), I don’t have to ALSO show the $2800 of monthly income. Is that right? In theory, I could fund the bank account and STILLL leave my SS in place till I’m 70. Or am I reading wrong?

Is there a service where you can work with someone directly on the process of living in Spain? It is overwhelming. Ideally I would like to move there now but I am not at retirement age just yet. I am 56 so I have minimally 6 years, ideally 11 years before I retire.

This was very helpful! Moving to Spain or Italy is my dream. I am planning to tour North Spain at some point "post corona" , because I live in Florida I am done with beach and hot weather, which cities do you feel I should visit that are fun but also nice cool weather all year long?

Will 560 grand buy a decent house in Barcelona?? ? That won’t get you a garage in San Francisco. Considering selling my single family paid off house here in San Francisco. Love Barcelona/Sitges areas.
@SantiagoPerezartist4 жыл бұрын
Depends on what you define as decent. In most standards yes, more so in Sitges.

You could get a great flat in Madrid or Valencia for that, and I’d assume Barcelona too. A mansion everywhere else.
@SantiagoPerezartist4 жыл бұрын
@@kennielsen3896 like anything else, you try to buy in the center of an international city like Barcelona you’ll get an apartment. Go outside city center you may be able to get a house but what is questionable is the neighborhood. Depends on what you want, strongly suggest you go for a few weeks and drive around. Spain has soooo many beautiful areas no sure why people really insist on Barcelona.

Working remotely is an issue. The Spanish Consulate in Los Angeles saw I might want to work remotely and said I need a work visa. They did not answer if they are issuing these other visas. I know we can’t get in Spain on a tourist visa. Probably shouldn’t mention remote work if you otherwise qualify for a non lucrative visa.

Hi. I wonder if you could clarify the tax obligations related to the non-lucrative visa for Americans? Are pensions, social security, financial gifts, inheritance, etc., taxed by Spain? Or is there an agreement between U.S.. and Spain such that because any U.S. tax obligations will be taxed in the U.S.,.then to avoid double taxation no taxes would be due to Spain on the non-lucrative Visa? Don non-lucrative residents in Spain need to give any thought to taxes in Spain? Searching online I haven't found clarity on this. Thanks.

The enormous caveat with the investment visa is Spain one of the rare countries that charges a wealth tax, considerable on anything you own as well any income made worldwide. So you could have a rental property somewhere outside of Spain and they want 37% roughly of that income as well as a percentage of the value of the property. You need to really, really want it because tax consequences under golden visa option are very high.

Unless you spend less than 6 months / yr and now it’s a question of whether it’s worth that type of investment for the extra couple of months vs a tourist visa
