In this life I am a 'white' New Zealander, my ancestors trace back to the Cameron Clan of Scotland through my Mother, but I was born here and my Spirit (Wairua) and soul are rooted deeply in 'Our Lands'. I struggled for many years trying to find where I 'fit', living in 2 worlds - of Maori and Pakeha, Until I stood up and claimed, unapologetically who I am. See, I have been here before and I understand the impact 'Our Culture' has on every part of my existence, you know what I am saying, you feel it,, I can see it, you've been here before too. In a past life I belonged to Ngati TuWharetoa, (a Tribe in the North Island of New Zealand). In this life, I am a Pakeha, I have been here for many life times and I have struggle with feeling judged because of my skin, see it goes both ways, i can get put in the same basket as the English colonisers who come here and took the land, but i am not English, my ancestors are the Cameron Clan from the West Highlands of Scotland and Picts and Danish Vikings, so I stand for who I am and I will not live in a divide. I will walk and hold my chin high, I have the honour of wearing Ta Moko , traditional Maori Tattoo, through my Daughters Fathers line, she is Maori and I am sooo very blessed as a Muma to have to honour to instill in here and keep her / our culture alive and strong in our lives everyday. I didn't know I could wear it until I was 47 years old, I had felt an empty space and longing within my heart and didn't know why, when I had both my arms inked, i changed inside, i became instantly comfortable in my own skin and stepped into the most beautiful space, I know who I am..... See, some of us are different here, Aotearoa is our homeland, all of ours.... I am so blessed to have been gifted the richness and beauty of our Maori Culture and to be from here, you need to come here and go onto Marae (tradition ancestral homestead), you will never be the same Bro. Anywhere I go in this Universe I carry my culture, the colour of my skin is irrelevant, anywhere in this Universe, I will stand next to my Brothers and Sisters of Aotearoa and fight, fight to live in a world of Te Tahi Aroha (one love). I know where my bloodlines come from, but the lines of my heart, mind, body and spirit are firmly in the people, soil and culture of THIS LAND & MY INDIGINIOUS people. People ask why ? I've spent most of my life around people that made me feel ashamed and embarrassed to be Maori but to hear someone from the other side of the world understand what a beautiful people we are, it's bitter sweet because why is it a constant battle to be accepted 😢. Isn’t it beautiful ! ❤ saw this song live in concert and even more powerful seeing live! I cried watching you cry. I am so very blessed to be a New Zealander, to be born in the country we call “Gods own” to grow up in a bicultural society, with the influence of the Māori culture around me and which was embraced by my family, many friends who are Māori, being raised by a Pacific Island step father, married to a Pacific Island man and having Pacific island/Pakeha children, who I put into bilingual te reo māori school in order to embrace the culture and language. The influence of these cultures, most profoundly the Māori culture has enriched me as a person, invaluable lessons that have helped me be the person I am today. A Haka will bring me chills and tears will stream down my face ever time, you feel the power, the spirt of these people by just sitting listening to an elder, watching performances or through the expression of song and language, you feel it. So proud of how the Māori have held onto their culture and how they have slowly been gaining their power and mana back. ❤

The Māori language and culture is extremely special. Sadly we are at the cusp the of a battle right now with our new coalition government which has a key objective to take Māori Pakeha relations back decades. The rest of the world must send their heartfelt protestations to the NZ government today, to prevent a civil crisis happening in our country. The main culprits of this disaster in the making is the Act Party ( leader: David Seymour who is part Māori himself) and the New Zealand First Party ( leader: Winston Peters, who ironically, is also part Māori).

I’m a teacher. I was born and have lived my whole life in Aotearoa NZ. I absolutely believe te tiriti should be recognised in NZ law, and implemented fully, as it should have been in 1840. Your people were duped back then, by the duplicitous colonists. There should be no renegotiation of the original document. It must remain as stipulated in the Māori version of te tiriti.
