I did look at the Optima in black at a local pen shop last week. I was surprise how light it is. The penshop owner told me the piston mechanism is mostly plastic like Pelikan M400 and M600. Is it true. The Pelikan M1000 feel more expensive. The M1000 is only 70usd more. Tq

Chou Kuro ruined black ink for me. It's so good, I have had no desire to try others except Kiwa Guro and maybe Pilot's Iroshizuku equivalent. Ironically, it was among the first three inks I ever bought when I started my addiction earlier this year. I used about 80% of this ink by July, and I haven't had the courage to buy more. Instead, I've been collecting exclusive/limited and green inks. If they asked a more reasonable price for this, I bet it would become the dominant industry standard black in a month. Sure, some people complain about the cleanup, but I had my Lamy 2000 inked with this for almost 4 months before I switched, and it was easy to clean up. If you see a good deal on it, buy 2 bottles, it's worth it.

I also take those inserts out of ink bottles and throw them away. I understand the idea behind them but have found they simply don’t work. Good ink by the way.

Yeah this Chou Kuro doesnt have very much water resistance when I did my test the carbon black though i can paint watercolor over it and everything :)

That's what I've been hearing, but have no real use for waterproofness, so haven't tested it. Thanks for confirming!

This ink, will not damage some pens?

Damage, no. Depending on the nib/feed/pen combo though, the glitter can be too much and cause some ink starvation, like what happened with my 2000 here. But as for any damage to the pen, no they are pretty safe. Now, would I go ink a 100 year old vintage pen with it, probably not just due to the hassle and to be extra careful.

Own, but don’t care for this blue / gold shimmer color combination. It doesn’t work…esthetically…for me.

Thanks for watching! And no, I unfortunately don't have any inside info on it, other than they are always gemstone themed, and lately they've been glitter inks. I'm ready for a good, non-glitter one from them, but the glitter helps sell the matching pens, so we'll see.

Helpful. The Shooting Star looks like a Preppy variant. I reckon, by my tally, this makes Preppy, Plaisir, Prefounte, and Shooting Star. Pretty good base design. I'm glad you showed me a way to get at the tricky parts where ink seems to lurk for no good reason - like in the lip of the feed down by the nib. Never thought to use a syringe.

Oh come on, teal isn't ambiguous, it's teal ! Right? It's always been my favorite color, I've been using it my whole time at school ! You do need more greens I say. That pink is very good, I just picked Diamine coral and I didn't expect it to be so neon, I'm a bit disappointed. Hoping the Lullaby in the incoming Diamine inkvent will meet that need for me. This is a very beautiful palette. My favorite blue black is the Waterman blue black, I've had Herbin for years and they are very pretty. And the Waterman turquoise of course. Other than that, I'll coming back to inks after decades so I'm undecided for the rest. I must say that the dominant industry grey I got is absolutely gorgeous though.

I know, I know. A lot of people LOVE teal, but it just doesn't do it for me somehow. I don't Ming the Ku-Jaku though. Welcome back to inks and hope you find some good ones to round out your needs. What is the best way to store fountain pens?

If you've got a regular pen cup on your desk, that'll do just fine. Usually you want to make sure the nib end is the end facing up. That is if they're inked. Uninked, you can store them however you like. I have some in my desk pen cup and some spread between 2 pen boxes.

@8:03 tobacco swabs appear to differ a lot from the writing sample in terms of how the ink shades! Would not like such a performance to be honest. Just my opinion, Sir. Thanks for your review.

I smoked a joint and cleaned my pen - you’ve saved my life twice now because I couldn’t get it reassembled for the life of me and, once I did (from watching this video) it kept dripping! In trying to fix that, I accidentally bent the little metal part and made it so ink wouldn’t feed out. I am hoping it will work now that I’ve fiddled with it, trying to straighten & realign it 😭 thank you

I think I've heard of people doing it, but it would be so difficult, I personally would go through the trouble. Probably just go for a Preppy instead for ease of refilling. Could even do an eyedropper conversion on one fairly easily.

For long journaling do you reckon EF or F? On my pilot metro I like the flow and consistency of the M, but sometimes find it a bitttt too wet and the details of my writing get lost unless I articulate each letter better (bigger). What would you recommend? Will be switching from only stainless to gold so idk how much that would factor into this aspect. I prefer a robust option

I like them a lot, but the caps are garbage. I bought a box and at least 3 of them were broken at the base and they come off due to the pressure. But when the cap works, it is an amazing pen for my daily notes at work

I’ve got a purple one. I like it for the $1 I paid for it at Pop Shelf I can’t complain. The ink I also feel is thin, but purple & now I want one in pink since I know it’s out there. 😂

Lovely pen and a great review - Thank you. This is one of the very few pens which I post, others being the Platinum 3776 and the Aurora Optima. All of these pens, when posted are very nicely balanced and their weight comes up to my sweet spot. I wonder whether some pens are designed to be posted.
