Born in the late 60s, this children's programme was the bread and butter of my childhood. Like many people have already commented, it was way beyond its time, and although its target audience was children with hearing disabilities there was something there for children without. Pure genius.

You're not kidding, there was real creativity in this that anyone in their 50s now will look back on. It still doesn't seem like it was put together, it just "was". I had no clue at the time it was aimed at the hard of hearing - we ALL liked it. Still have the drawing of a lion Tony Hart made for me!

The concept of this programme was just brilliant. At a very young age I didn't know some people couldn't hear. This was the 1970s. This programme was a real eye-opener, and very educational. I am 50. And still learning, but Vision On helped me originally.
@rjjcms1 Жыл бұрын
And it must have really encouraged all the children who watched it to do their own art at home. Back in the days when both BBC1 and ITV showed a full schedule of children's programming in the late afternoons on Monday to Friday for almost a couple of hours before the 6 o'clock news. Vision On was weekly and about 25 to 30 minutes long,but this condensed 10-minute version shows nearly all of the show's regular elements and characters. Though neither of us had a hearing or speech impediment me and my little sister enjoyed watching it regularly in the early to mid 70s and luckily we already had a colour TV from near the start of that decade.

Every generation should have the opportunity to enjoy this wonderful program anew. I only saw a few episodes but it left an indelible mark on me. Many years later, after I have long forgotten about this program, a chance encounter of the gallery theme invoked a strange sense of familiarity and warmth. To other people, Cavatina is the theme to the movie Deer Hunter. To me it's the VisonOn gallery theme, along side Left Bank 2. An internet search led me back to this childhood gem. Thank you for putting this on the tube. I sometimes pity younger generations who never had the chance to enjoy this program before they become too jaded.

I tried too. My only clues were that the show was british, and the insect logo formed with the show´s name. But that name is what I forgot. Then, browsing the extensive list of british tv shows in wikipedia, I was picking children shows at random. The mouse wandered and wow! the logo appeared in a pop up window! Carefully, not moving the mouse pointer, I read the name: Vision On. 1964 - 1976

I met Sylvester McCoy at an event a few years ago. A friend had him sign a Dr Who DVD. As we were all chatting, I suddenly remembered that I have a battered Vision On annual I could have brought to get signed. Sylvester said he'd liked to have seen it: he had fond memories of the show.

I got him to sign a new Doctor Who book I bought at a Science Fiction convention a couple of years ago in Sweden. He was one of the guests. I said "Hello Mr Coy, would you mind signing this Doctor Who book for me?" to which he humorously replied "Am I in it?". Later on, he went for a walk around the convention, seemingly enjoying being unrecognised. As I we passed in opposition directions, he exchanged a glance with me and gave a quirky smile.

I feel bad for some deaf people watching the show when they were kids. They never got to hear the music. Some of them probably had no hearing aids. The show is made for deaf children so that is why in the beginning you see the woman do sign language.
@marcodamanlius Жыл бұрын
I am deaf and I recalles watching it in the deaf program daily. I was fortunate to have hearing aids. I still can hum to all music on the show. It was designed to make it more bass music or up bear music for deaf children to feel the music rather than hear it and deaf people enjoyed anything visual. This partial reason why I am a Freelance Designer and Artist. I loved the show

Lots of familar library music here. That first piece of music with the dinosaur was also used in Mary, Mungo and Midge when they all go down in the lift! The music with the scientist in the white coat was used the Jokers' Wild TV show with Barry Cryer. The music with the cuckoo clock was used from The Strange World of Gurney Slade - an early 1960s surreal comedy/drama with Anthony Newley. Left Bank Two - The Gallery, of course. The closing tune is called 'Java', originally by Allen Toussaint. I have heard the others before, but not sure where.

@NinaLanyon15 күн бұрын
Surely he would have stuck with the physical things, scissors, paper, paint, glue. The birds rocking on the wire can be done by anyone with some light card stock and a pair of scissors and you get something that exists outside of a computer. Doing it in a 3D design program would be considerable more difficult. Remember that the idea was that children of all ages should be inspired to create their own art.
