I'm working through a list of american classics and just finished this book. Definitely in my top 3 from the 34 I've read so far. Wise Blood and The Sound and the Fury being the other two.

Toni Morrison talking about The Song of Solomon. People would quote the bible in regular conversation or they had lyrics from songs or journalism. Her mother sang like a dream. Before radio and television people use to walk around singing.

I’m listening to her read it now and not only is the writing exquisite but the reading is so beautiful. Her mother wasn’t the only one with a beautiful voice.

We are in a fine mess now that she is gone . GREAT LADY : there will never be a writer like her again now ! Her novels are so mesmerazing, empowing, moving and mostly her work is a reminder of the History of Slavery . To honnor Ancient . She used to say "There are so many Black people who tend to forget way too easily all the atrocities theirs Great Grand Parents went through writing was mandatory"

What an absolutely wonderful book, full of so many layers and so political as she says all good art is. I just finished it for the first time, after owning it for many years and I can’t believe it took me this long to pick it up.

Just finished the book and ending was kinda disturbing. Why does he gotta jump off a cliff? Can't he get freed in his mind without dying. I guess it was written in 1977 so maybe it was a satisfying ending then.
@baziajedraszko78894 жыл бұрын
but it is not so sure that he's dying! anyways, great book!
@elliest554 жыл бұрын
I didn't think he would necessarily die. He and Guitar would have to fight to the death, but there's no telling who would win. Most importantly for Milkman, taking flight fulfilled his legacy, the one established by his great-grandfather and the one that was foretold on the day he was born.
@adamzanzie4 жыл бұрын
@Enes Bergman: That's not how it ends. It ends [spoilers] with him and Guitar rushing at each other and about to kill each other. Milkman felt exhilaration in those final seconds and that's how he achieved his freedom. But if it were ever turned into a movie, we'd probably just see them kill each other.

The title of this is about a woman telling her story about her mother aunt and her own life. Nothing about song of solomon. She's just talking about her own life just as any regular dude. Her life is the subject of this content. I haven't even found anything biblical just pure my mother ,my sister, my life, my brother, my feeling, my memory.
