I finish the repairs to the rear wheel arch of our MG Midget 1500 restoration project by fabricating a repair panel and welding it in place. / visionautogarage / visionautogarage

I couldn't quite tell from the video. Is there access to the rear side of the repair piece, so that you can prime that part as well? Have you ever thought of getting your hands on an old cobbler's anvil. My dad used to use one to beat the repair pieces to shape for his rusty old (8 years old in them days) Ford Pop.

There's no access once it's welded on, but I did prime it with weld through primer before sticking it on. There's also drain holes and other opportunities to apply a rust preventer should there be need later on. A cobblers anvil would be nice. An English wheel would be too, there's a long list! :)

I use one of those cobblers things too! (my dad always called it a hobbing foot) It's useful for odd repair panels as it has a few different compound curves on the different parts

Other metalworkers I've watched use a felt-tip marker for drawing on metal. It looks like a lot less effort, and gives much more visible results than a pencil. One particular brand has become almost generic for the use.

+Parrot Raiser yes, Sharpies. Probably didn’t have one to hand when I did this.

watched is the key word, have you actually done any?

Great job! This looks like my Midget project except mine is a 73! Now that it is done we drive ours all over the country and camp out of it. We drive the back roads of America and visit a new small town each day. Come travel with us! Glennandjaneadventures.com or Or KZbin channel same name. See you on the road!

Why cut those fold when you can just bend it directly.
@VisionAutoGarage5 жыл бұрын
Without the cuts, folding the flange would either Kink the flange or bend the flat section. I don’t have A shrinker or stretcher so this was the easiest option.
@jrpellerin5 жыл бұрын
No need for a shrinker just a piece of 1 inch wood profiled after the shape of the panel then clip the panel there and start hammering the fold 90 degree angle.

joel ray pellerin not sure that would be any quicker, but would save a few welds!
