God has made Himself known throughout history, but after the Bible something changed in the way He does that. Jimmy Akin and Dom Bettinelli explore the different kinds of revelations, how we can tell which are credible and which aren't, and what it means when the Church approves an apparition. sqpn.com/2020/...

Great information. The painting is one of my favorites. It’s The Annunciation by Henry Ossawa Tanner (1859-1937), a native of Pittsburgh, PA.

THANK YOU for using as a thumbnail, Henry Ossawa Tanner's _Annunciation_, as this is my favorite depiction of this event. As said below, Tanner was a native of Pittsburgh, PA, 1859-1937. As might be expected as the son of a Bishop of the African Methodist Episcopalian Church (AME), Tanner was an African American, born just after the pre Civil War, war known as Bleeding Kansas. Tanner's middle name is in honor of the Abolitionist John "Ossawatomie" Brown (I think it highly likely the connection was even closer, Brown was at least aquainted with most AME leaders as part of the Abolitionist movement in the East).

First one that comes to mind is medjugorje. The Bishop there disapproves and says its a false apparition. As far as I'm concerned, I follow the Church, not the liaty. It's false to me until the church approves it.

Just because the Church hasn't discerned whether or not a given Apparition is true, does not necessarily mean it's false, it means the Church has not made a statement on it one way or the other. I don't know if it's true or not, and quite frankly I also don't care. Even if it is true, my faith is not based on an apparition of the Virgin Mary in Southeastern Europe, it's based on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

I never really knew what happened to me, but this helps. I was living in Maine. It had been a particularly rough time in my life and I was seeking guidance from God. One day, I had come home from work, walked to my bedroom and sat on the bed. I looked at the clock, it was 7:42. I reclined back on my bed and was instantly in a dream. I was standing on a vibrant green field by a rocky seaside. There was a guy sitting on a rock down by the coast line. I walked up to him. He was so peaceful and welcoming. He had a bagged lunch and asked me to sit and eat with him. I could smell the sea water and feel the coastal breeze on my face. I told him I couldn't eat with him, but would stand near. So, I went to jump onto a large rock in front of him, that was surrounded by water. When I jumped, a large beast reared up to grab me from the water, but missed. I turn back to the man sitting on the rock and commented how close I came to death. He was looking pass me out over the ocean. I turned to look, and over the ocean was rolling clouds on fire coming close to the shore, and out of the clouds came seven winged lions in formation. The lead lion was massive and landed on my rock, hovering over me. Cowering, I curled up in the fetal. It leaned down and said boomingly, "You can only run from death for so long." Then I woke up. I was 7:45. I've struggled for years over this. What was it that I experienced....what do I do with it..this was a powerful experience and I still remember every rich and vibrant detail.

9:46 regarding public revelation: do you mean what the CCC says in paragraphs 65-66? That there will be no more public revelation before the second coming of Christ, but “Yet even if Revelation is already complete, it has not been made completely explicit; it remains for Christian faith gradually to grasp its full significance over the course of the centuries.”

Jimmy, can you do a podcast on Graham Hancock and the Younger Dryas period? I've always been intrigued by the fact that human beings have been around for 200,000 years but only in the past 10,000 years have we developed civilization. What about Atlantis as lost civilization during the younger Dryas event in the richart structure and Solon and gobekli tepe? Would love to hear your take on this along with how it could fit into the flood event in the Bible and other cultures. Was Noah from Atlantis or is gobekli teppe where the ark landed?

I listened to this episode a long time ago on the podcast. I’m only seeing the cover art for this episode for the first time now. That’s my favorite representation of the Annunciation. There’s just such a quiet honesty about it.

RE: the mysterious news segment: It's long been said that caffeine and nicotine may help control weight. Smoking used to be prescribed to pregnant women to keep them from gaining too much weight. I kid you not. By the time I was having babies in the early 1980s, we were encouraged to gain at least 50 pounds. But my mother and grandmother were ordered to watch what they ate and to smoke to decrease their appetite. I'm not sure of the reasoning. Maybe they wanted to keep women from getting overweight after the babies were born. In any case, smoking during pregnancy was certainly discouraged by the time I was having babies. They were even saying that there's a link between smoking and deceased intelligence in the babies. My thought upon hearing that was how much more scary smart my late brother would have been, because he was an inventive genius. May he rest in peace. He smoked as a youth, but hadn't smoked for at least 30 years when he succumbed to bile duct cancer.

One thing that really troubles me is people who claim to have had a near death experience say our lives are planned before we’re born and they promote reincarnation. I have not read anything like that in the bible. This seems to contrast Jesus’s teachings. That is we’re judged on the life we’re living. If we keep coming back, Jesus teaching is canceled. What is the answer.

@laurenlooolll 19 күн бұрын
according to the Church and Bible, reincarnation is not a real thing, once we die we are judged. these people may be flat out lying, or they could have experienced a dream, may be experiencing a mental illness that causes them to believe a delusion of this, etc.

Great show. Two questions though... Are declarations made by the Church on specific revelations considered infallible? If they are not infallible, are the faithful free to believe in a revelation even if the Church deems it inauthentic or unworthy of devotion?

ACI Prensa Staff, Jul 14, 2023 By Walter Sanchez Silva Catholic News Agency excerpts Polish Cardinal Stanisław Dziwisz, archbishop emeritus of Krakow and for more than 40 years the personal secretary to Pope John Paul II, has paid a private visit to Medjugorje. As reported by Radio Mir Medjugorje, the cardinal arrived in the town on July 11 and was received by the apostolic visitor with a special responsibility for the parish of Medjugorje, Archbishop Aldo Cavalli; the pastor of Medjugorje, Father Zvonimir Pavičić; and Father Antonio Primorac, Cavalli’s secretary. The alleged Marian apparitions in Medjugorje, which have not yet received approval from the Church, began on June 24, 1981. Regarding the “alleged current apparitions,” the Holy Father noted, “the report has its doubts.” However, in 2019 the Holy See gave authorization for priests and bishops to organize pilgrimages to the Medjugorje shrine as long as they do NOT imply recognition of the apparitions.

How about the Saint Michael Chaplet or the Exorcism Prayer of Pope Leo XIII, which I love to pray 🙏 especially when you hear a tragic news story involving crime and a perpetrator is being sought by law enforcement. I've tried to research the person who had the Chaplet revealed to them from Portugal but it's said they wanted to remain anonymous which I find admirably acceptable, either way. I wondered if you would consider an episode on Angels in Sci Fi and Horror movies like Constantine and the Prophecy series. I liked Constantine but found some things to be rather questionable as the script was written by two Lutherans. Having Archangels try to cause an apocalypse and use profanity seems a little out of the ordinary. They are making a sequel to Constantine, and I had hoped they could have Michael Fassbinder play the Archangel Raphael as I'm sure he and the cynically sarcastic John Constantine could have all kinds of dialogue about why God heals, and yet allows suffering. 🤔

Be careful using the Exorcism Prayer to St. Michael, unless you're referring to the short version, simply known as the St. Michael Prayer, that was prayed after the old Mass (before 1969). The short version is approved, but not the longer version, which even at the time was only for official Church exorcists to pray. The laity do not have permission to pray it. And nowadays, even official exorcist priests are forbidden from praying it, even in the context of an exorcism. If I recall, it was Fr. Longnecker, or perhaps Fr. Richard Heilman (sp?) who wrote in a blog post that he was contacted by an exorcist who had to perform an exorcism on a fellow exorcist. When the reason for the priest's possession was investigated, through questioning the demon during the exorcism, it was learned that the priest had used the Exorcism Prayer to St. Michael as composed by Pope Leo XIII. Upon further investigation, the prohibition decree was found in a certain book of forbidden prayers, or suppressed prayers, that even when they were used commonly, were relegated only to priests. But if you're just praying the following prayer, you are in no danger: Saint Michael the archangel, defend Us in battle. Protect us from the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits that prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Ordinarily I would have this talk show on as I work, but I’m just not interested in talks about alien implants, magic and mad emperors. Let’s hear things on topics like The Shroud of Turin and eucharistic miracles, I just don’t see a faith and perspective reason on alien implants.

St. John of the Cross warns us not to wish for extraordinary event's, and just humbly pray and praise God. Sometimes it could be distressing to have vision's, as many can be the devil appearing as an angel of light.
