Try travel in Niva 100+ km and you will change your mind. After 1000 km you'll have to repair that car. I'm Lithuanian and live in Lithuania. So, I've born and lived half of my life in USSR. That was terrible state and it's cars were terrible as well. Post Soviet countries know those cars and almost never buy them. We are ensured by our own experience that old second hand cars made in western countries are much better than new Russian car. Sorry for my bad English.

@@vardukaspavardukas4062 I visit my parents a few times a year. They live about 400km from my home and I use my Lada Niva to get there. I can´t complain about anything. It´s not a fast car, so I drive on the right lane behind some truck. I bought it new in 2014. It´s the best car I ever owned. It has now over 60000km and the only thing that broke so far was one wheel bearing. So far it´s pretty reliable and cheap to drive, because it runs on a propane/butane mixture

Communist vehicles are great and are underestimated in many Western countries. They may not be super fast or stylish, but they do their work under all circumstances. Today, many of them still travel from the Soviet era. Quality and reliability. I'm proud on that and that is not something like the Chinese vehicles of today. Because the options it does't have, aren't abel to break! 😉🖒 for the Netherlands! Keep up the communistic stuff!

Wat? Not that stylish? fuck style, all about how fucking effective and how reliable it was + how many scrap you need to fix it. Fuck modern western cars with all that electronic techno crap , total unreliable and impossible to fix by your self. I say that as a german and I dislike most modern german cars... Also the Aro looks nice and reminds me why I love my Land rover 130 LHD double cab.

Great video! I've always had a soft spot for the Lada Niva - my brother used to have one when I was younger. My only problem with them was the front suspension...the control arms hang quite a bit lower than the rear axles (solid rear end), so if you're in deep muddy ruts, the front would slide along on the control arms with no real weight on the front tyres, while the rear had clearance and would still be pushing you along. Not a big problem...unless you need to get out of those ruts, which was sometimes impossible without aid from a shovel. And the lack of steering stops, so if you suddenly went to full lock - say, if you clipped a large rock and were going just a little too fast - it would immediately shatter the steering box. (Ask me how I know!) These are the few areas that the Suzuki Sierra (Suzuki Samurai in the US) had over it, as Suzuki used a solid axle for both front and rear, and had built-in steering stops. Both were surprisingly good in the rough stuff, and often embarrassed much larger 4X4s...Toyota Landcruiser, Jeep Wrangler, Nissan patrol, etc. :-)

Pěkná ukázka skvělých terénních vozidel zejména z ČSSR a Ruska.

I love when you do these niche videos and unusual subjects like rotary bikes and 2 stroke diesels, huge engines, communist cars. They are so unique and fun and you execute them so well. Keep up the good work my friend. Seeing as you did such a good job on the chrysler engines and detroit diesel engines maybe do one with unusual engines made by ferrari, or the volkswagen group. Engines made by a particular company that are not well known, unusual layouts, against what a particular company used to make. Much love from Ireland (y)

Finally someone shedding some light on ARO, I remember how daddy used to tell me stories of how his countryside relatives had one of these beasts, it was like joyride for em at the time being. I'm really proud off all the Romanian outcomes. What we've achieved even with the other "based upon" vehicles. There are some of em that ever reached States and beat the Jeep Wrangler in off-road races I think 4 times and the UAZ too. It nearly was sold in the US. But I never understood why it didn't make it. Not exactly. But there are people who actually have those things there but most of em are actually Romanians importing them but even Americans actually owning and lauded those cars for how superior they are against harsh terrain. Really wish I could own one myself in one day. And aggressive car to beat two giant very well know cars. Only to show how superior it was at the time. Yet as gentle and docile as you'd expect it to be. But they are so rare nowadays. I used to see em as a kid but even then I barely had a sight of em. But if I'm not wrong I think it was built as a response to the Austrian Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen/Class. Yes the G-Wagen is the only car I think that it's production is in Austria to this day.

There was a 4.5 liter ARO (a Plymouth Barracuda 275 Cui V8 engine with 170hp in stock form - 200+ hp tuned by Cosworth), driven by Gerard Sarrazin, that won the 1982 Rally of Island, won the 1983 Rally of Tunisia, won the 1983 and 1984 Rally Of The Pharaohs (Egypt), and also winner of 1985 Paris Dakar Rally. All victories were at it's vehicle class. In Romania, AROs are still used by Off-road enthusiasts, and, like the little Lada Niva, beating other more renown off-road vehicles.

cars like the aro are used till today in poland as tow and utility vehicles. also you could mention how cheap you can get one in europe. people sell the 8x8 tatras for 5 to 8 thousand us dollars = 20000 to 32000 PLN or (złoty). personally i would love to see lists like that but with communist motorcycles or mopeds. i drive a romet ogar 200. i know its nothing special in theory. but for a 15 year old in poland it gives a lot of fun and expierience. i gave for the moped only 800 złoty (200 dollars) you can buy parts for them for LITERALLY LUNCH MONEY.

I´m happy to see that most of the vehicles in this video are from Czech Republic (or Czechoslovakia). You still can see old Tatras, Pragas and Škodas here. Some of these cars are still being kept alive because there are no others to replace them in means of reliability and off road abilities.

Communist - а noun; Communistic - an adjective.
@LeSarthois
@LeSarthois 6 жыл бұрын
It make sense, tho. The countries that built those vehicles were (so-called) communists, the people that make and owned them were (possibly) communists, but the vehicles themselves don't have political thoughs. They just are. "My car is communist." Does it sing the Internationale on worker's day?
@ianmcass
@ianmcass 6 жыл бұрын
We'd say "communist vehicle" to mean "vehicle of the communist". "Communistic" is not a word we'd use. As @rust says, that's an adjective which would describe the vehicle itself as communist which as @LeSathois says is not possible - the vehicle doesn't care about politics.
