The wife and I did a quick trip to Burnsville last October. We ate at Pig & Grits and stayed at the little motel next door, which is owned by a very nice young couple. We drove over to Spruce Pine to a farm where they raise Highland cattle and the wife enjoyed petting them. Neat area.

Fun fact!! I grew up in the area where Otway Burns lived and is buried. He was a privateer and his ship was the 'Snapdragon'. There's a similar statue on the waterfront in Swansboro NC. His home was in the Swansboro area as well. He was buried in Beaufort NC. Pronounced 'bow-fort'. His grave is a stone crypt and has an original cannon from his ship on top. It's in an old graveyard with graves that predate the revolutionary war. It has many unique graves besides his. A young girl that died at sea while on a voyage with her ship captain father is buried in a barrel of rum. He promised his wife he'd bring her back no matter what. Even a victim of Blackbeard is supposedly buried in there. He did visit the town frequently and stayed at a tavern that still stands and is a house now. I love small towns as well and enjoy seeing them with y'all.

Those pink flowers are called strawflowers also known as everlasting flowers. They retain their color after drying and have been used for centuries in flower arrangements because they last for years. When I lived in Michigan, I was able to grow them but since I moved to East Tn, I haven't had much luck with them. Really enjoyed your video. Love visiting small towns.

We're thinking of moving to North Carolina next year. Possibly somewhere near Cherokee but I really don't know. We need somewhere that has lower price rent. But higher paying jobs any ideas or suggestions of a good place to move.😮
@Orangeyoshis9 ай бұрын
Depends on the type of employment you are looking for. As someone who has lived in the mountains of NC all of my life I would highly recommend any of these counties: Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, or Yancey. The closer you get to Asheville the higher the rent is.
