Love your videos Dave. You know that. Cant help to wonder why the community goes straight to survival? Most important bushcraft skill? Stay calm. When did bushcraft become survival? Why is every outing in the woods a "survival" scenario? Man, zaps all the fun out of bushcraft. Keep the good stuff coming man!

Lonnie is oh so right. In a survival situation your mental condition is number one, What I call "No Stinking Thinking". The first rule of survival is rather trite, but true; "JUST DON'T DIE", but within that rule are several things that allow you to do just that. 1 No stinking thinking. If you panic, or in any way freak out, you endanger yourself greatly. If there are others with you your mental condition can effects others too. 2. What do you need to do, right now to BETTER your situation. Lonnie said the same thing, his way, and in the same order. 3. gather resources 4 take steps to self rescue, This is the tough part, where previously gained skill and knowledge come into play. I would like to meet Lonnie, I think we would have some great discussion. ;-)

I'm watching this video thinking about that guy in the news recently who lived back in the bush in Alaska that had a fire and got into a bad spot. He said next time he may build two places in case one burns down. When you live twenty miles away from your neighbor, you better be able to extract your infected tooth with an ice skate blade after drinking a fifth of whiskey.

Here's Y'all an Eskimo's method against that of a raiding Lobo Wolf, as told by Paul Harvey... He coats his knife with blood and lets it freeze. Then he adds another coat of blood and then another. As each coat freezes, he adds another smear of blood until the blade is covered over by layers of frozen blood. Then he buries the knife---blade up---in the frozen tundra. The wolf catches the scent of fresh blood and begins to lick it. He licks it more feverishly until the blade is bare. then he keeps on licking harder. Because of the cold, he never notices the pain of the blade on his tongue. His craving for the taste of blood is so great that he licks the blade until he bleeds to death, swallowing his own life. -73019

Just finished an old Elwell military pattern from 1943 myself. It’s in excellent condition with no poll damage and the edge looks untouched. I put it on a slim 36 and it balances well. It scales at 4lb 10oz but it feels very wieldy on the slim haft. It belongs as a pair with a shovel on the side of a military vehicle but it’d serve in the woods or firewood duty fairly capably I suppose. Ain’t licked it-yet! Do you suppose this axe licking might become a thing? Can just see the headline “Stars Risk All For Their Axe Habit” 😂😂 you heard it first here Dave, you may have started something big!👍🏻😂

You said, 'I would have like to have shot more on film'. You need to use the correct terminology, there is no film in your camera. Nor do you have a 'video tape' in your camera as we once did. You are shooting a 'video' which is neither film or video tape.
