I recently spent the day in the Chernobyl exclusion zone, exploring the town of Pripyat. It was both fascinating to see how nature reclaimed an uninhabited town but also devastating to see how many peoples lives were ruined but the disaster.

This is the most amazing and sad thing I have ever seen. It is so upsetting that so many people had to die cause of one failure. Thank you so much for showing us this video so we know the truth of how everything looks and such. Btw your filming ability is amazing! I am also super surprised that they would even let anyone in with a possible risk of getting radiation poisoning.

savannah rae it’s actually more sad that we humans would even build such a monstrosity to make power when there are much better alternatives such as wind, solar, and hydroelectric. Nuclear power is also the stupidest version of power in that the nuclear radiation heats water to create steam that turns a turbine to generate electricity. What kind of ridiculous person thought of that?

The radioactivity here will never completely go away. Most of the radioactive element released in the Chernobyl accident have half lives of around 30 years. Americium, one of the radioactive elements released, has a half life of around 430 years. This means that it will take that long to decay, but that doesn't mean it disappears, that means that it reduces by half (half of the number of radioactive elements go away basically). So currently, the radioactivity of Chernobyl is somewhat close to what it was 40 years ago. This is shown by the fact that each one of those clicking sounds on that radioactivity meter (Geiger counter) is the sound of one radioactive element passing through your body. I wouldn't recommend stepping foot in that place, let alone for an entire day.
@visitearth3258
@visitearth3258 4 жыл бұрын
Everywhere on earth will beep with a Geiger counter as everywhere has some radiation, especially cities. My dose of radiation throughout the day was less than you receive on a flight from LA to London or three days in A big city in China. Check out the chart at 22:10 in the video!

I feel bad for the ones who didn't survive or lost one of there family members, though no one could've known that one of the nuclear reactors would have a meltdown. Chernobyl is a sad thing and the nuclear wast will take a while to clean up. Chernobyl is stuck in 1986, figuratively not literally.
