I’ve done many backcountry canoe trips, and have even taught canoeing once upon a time. Your video is a pretty accurate reflection of the highs and lows of a trip: peaceful, beautiful scenery and body destroying portages. I must admit I did wince every time your canoe touched a rock, however.

@@laurao8099 It's actually much much easier to have one person do it. The canoes they are using are super light so the weight isn't much of a problem. About 20 years ago, my husband and I embarked upon a 4-day canoeing trip in mid-July in the Adirondacks of Upstate NY. We were both in our mid-40's at the time. Along with about 40 lb of gear, we also brought along our little tiny white dog (Renny) as we paddled through a chain of lakes near Lake Placid, NY. Everything we needed was packed into our canoe. Fortunately, we had a small metal stand on wheels that allowed us to portage our canoe from one lake to another. What a great time we had!

I love this! As a Minnesotan who just canoed the Boundary Waters for the first time this year too, it was so fun to watch your adventure and reminisce on my trip! Looks like you had a great time and happy that you took on the tough adventure of one of the most beautiful areas in Minnesota! ❤❤ and Portaging is so tough, you all made it look easy!

Right?? Where are you from? As a Canadian I have always thought it was Port-AH-ge! I thought about that for most of the video haha

"Por- taage" pronounced with a soft "a" reflects the word's French roots. So it rhymes with garage, not luggage in Canada.

As a native Minnesotan, you had me laughing so hard when you first thought there weren't any mosquitoes and then the next section was you guys acting like you were going to die 😂😂 you are correct though, they come out preciously 30 minutes before sunset every night😂

This has brought back such fond memories of my time working as a camp counsellor in the Adirondacks where we took the campers out on canoe trips like this. Living in the UK, we never need to worry about bears and I was fascinated to learn you had to hang food from the trees to keep them away from the tents! This video is making me eager to get back stateside sooner rather than later! ❤️
@kashshaw48743 жыл бұрын
Do y'all not have many bears over there? Or are they not as bothersome as they are in the US? There was recently a few people killed by bears over here. One got a lady sleeping in a hammock while camping.
@WhenAdventureKnox3 жыл бұрын
@@kashshaw4874 We don't have bears at all. With the exception of bears maybe in a zoo, just like how you guys may have tigers/lion's in a zoo, but in the wild, we have no bears. It means it's a real novelty when we go to North America and see them, but I've only ever seen black bears. I'd love to see a grizz and a polar bear... *from a safe distance! The most dangerous wild animal we have in the UK is the adder snake, and even then, they're incredibly rare!

As a former boundary waters guide this made my heart so big. You southerners ❤️ took to it all so well. And everyone learns the mosquito war/put up your bag ASAP lesson. Also, died when you saw a bear on your first day. I haven’t seen a bear up there in years. But I was sad you didn’t get to seen any loons or otters 😭! Maybe in the next video? If you go to the BWCA again, come in early September. Not a single bug but warm weather, warm water.

Omg I LOVE Celsius, but I've never met anyone else who's even heard of it! They used to sell it at my old office, and I would get it when I didn't want coffee, and I was so impressed! But I like the kind that isn't carbonated, and that one is hard to find, so I'm so glad to see they have a powder version! Congrats on your sponsorship!

I don't normally watch the sponsor segment but I did for this one about Celsius cause love these drinks too! These kept me awake and focused during grad school! Love the taste and getting that kick of energy (but no jitters)! ...And of course love Kara & Nate, y'all are the best adventure travel guides!

I've been in mosquito situations like that, and I learned the best thing to bring is an electric fly swatter or two. It's very satisfying even if it's a losing battle, and it's the easiest way to take out the ones that inevitably end up in your tent. The other thing to do is treat your tents and your bug gear with permethrin days before you leave for your trip if you have the option. Just don't put it on your skin

Everyone always expects Minnesota to just be flat. Of course we have tons of corn fields, but Minnesota is a really large state - way larger than most people know - and much of it was formed by glaciers ripping into the crust of the earth. So, while Minnesota doesn’t have mountains, it does have large hills, deep cliffs, and lots of ravines and other treacherous terrain. Which is what makes it so amazing for hiking and exploring.
