Another fabulous picture of traveling and enjoying the outback. Will share a picture later of me on (in the 1960s Ayers Rick). Very happily to see the respect now given to the Aboriginal People and their culture. Back then these people were not even counted in the census. Looking forward to your rail adventure.

I haven’t completely watched the first part, but I do look forward to watching the second part after having finished watching the first. When I think of equivalents to what within Mainland Australia is the Outback, but in the Americas, I think of the Bolivian salt flats, much of Montana and Wyoming, and huge parts of Northern Ontario (particularly those well off the beaten path, and if not within Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie, Thunder Bay or the small town of Kenora) for starters.

Stunning episode, well done K and N. It can't be emphasised enough that a trip like this requires permits, as mentioned. You can't just drive into Aboriginal land and communities without them. Many communities are actually totally off limits. And Fun Fact... the camels were mostly brought over to help build the railways through the outback and the cameleers that came with them were called Afghans, even though they were from all over the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent. That's where you get The Ghan, the famous outback train. Many of the cameleers were also the first Muslims in Australia and their descendents are still around today. The camels are now the only wild camels left in the world and they fetch huge prices if shipped back to the Middle East.

Hi Kara and Nate! When driving on dirt roads you will have noticed the corrugations. The accepted wisdom is that you either go really slowly and gently go through each dip or, you go really fast and try to skip from peak to peak. There are so many dirt roads in Australia that in the early 1960's there was a famous incident when an Australian rally driver was driving in Europe. His French navigator kept telling him to go faster on the paved roads. When they got to the dirt they did not slow down as this was the Aussie's wheelhouse. He was awaiting instructions but none came. He looked over and the Frenchman was cowering under the seat. He was not used to dirt roads being driven on that fast... Enjoying the series!!!

Thank you for this wonderful video! So many of us Aussies are yet to explore our own backyard, and admittedly the thought of intrepid travel through the outback seems a little daunting. I absolutely loved your adventurous spirit and enthusiasm, especially when meeting people from our First Nations communities. You’ve inspired me to do some research about outback travel!

How fascinating. I never knew there were camels in Australia. I thought only Kangaroos. What you showed in this vlog is breathtaking and anthropology at the same time. I am sure half the Australian population have never been to this part of Australia or have met this tribe.

Half? More like 98%. Very very few Australians ever go that far into the outback

Australia has more camels than any other country.

Thank you for showing us this! Our remote Aboriginal communities are a forgotten group here unfortunately. Ed is a bloody legend! Walking the walk there mate, good on ya. I also loved seeing you both eat my snacks for some reason 😂

i am soo happy to see you experience Australia. I live in Whyalla a rural town in South Australia. where steel is mined and made and where cuttlefish come every year to mate and have babies. G'day from Australia. i can't wait to see what other adventures you have in Australia (down under).

I’ve been following your adventures for a long time, and I used to share them with my girlfriend (Operative term: USED TO.) until she said, “Seriously, though. Who would ever want to do that?” Now, I’m no survivalist outdoorsman, but I’ve been on camping trips since I was a kid - the “we haven’t seen anyone for days and if we don’t get this fire started, tomorrow isn’t guaranteed.” kind of camping. So, I took her out to a campground - right outside of Philadelphia, so it’s not like we were in the boonies, and my parents lent us their super-deluxe camper/trailer/caravan (whatever the term is) for a weekend. That thing had air conditioning! I didn’t have that at home! Anyway, she HAAAATED it. Good thing she drove separately! After a day of fishing and hiking through the woods, I got back to the site and she had left a note. Easiest breakup ever! Me and the other hillbillies broke out the beer and whiskey til we fell over in the dirt!

Thanks for sharing this epic adventure with us! I grew up in western South Dakota; the Outback reminds me of traveling the Native reservations turned up to 11 - remoteness, abandoned vehicles, scenery, culture.
