Visiting Beijing after 17 years.
I visited Beijing for the first time back in 2007 together with my parents. China's capital would leave a long lasting impression on my young Danish mind. Now 17 years later I'd revisit it with my partner, whom I left my home country of Denmark for.

The beauty of these scenes is rivaled only by the couple photographing them. You two have a penchant for finding the best shots; I have never seen the Forbidden City and Summer Palace rendered so beautifully. That famous building with Mao is often shown in the US, but it always seems so drab; you showed it in all its splendor.

I have met a young couple in Thailand recently. They were from US and flow to Singapore and they were traveling from Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and then to Cambodia and Vietnam and before going back to US. We have happened to have a casual friendly conversation and I have asked them since they are so near to China, why not go to China just for a few days to see China. I told them China is very interesting. But I was surprised of what they told me. They said according to all their media reports in US and advice by their government and many other people. They were advice and told not to travel to China. Even their parents don't allow them to go to China. They were told China is not a safe country to travel. Very dirty, poor rundown infrastructures, poor transportation system, polluted, homeless people are everywhere waiting to rob tourists are common even in broad daylight. Chances of been detained for no reason by the Communist government is very high. Because China is an authoritarian state and all foreign visitors are monitored by thousands of cameras everywhere and every minute where foreign visitors go. Foreign visitors from western countries can be detained for months or even years for no reason. All these is what they know about China. The couple is like below 25 years of age and already so badly brainwashed by their government and controlled media. This is really sad.

It's sad, but unfortunately many Western countries make their travel recommendations political rather than focus on actual reality. Sadly, it makes people miss out on a lot in the world

The rise of companies based out of the Chinese capital such as tech giants Bytedance (TikTok/Douyin, Lark and Lemon8), JD and Xiaomi, even state-owned CITIC, Shougang Group and others made it more visible before the business and commercial circles

北京是氛围是严肃庄重，很多地方都能看到警察。许多人不喜欢北京，因为首都，每年又有大量的游客到北京。在旅游景区，紫禁城，博物馆，长城到处都是人，游客素质高低参差不齐。北京文化可以归类为满清的文化。北京就没有什么美食，所谓豆汁，内脏大杂烩很多中国人也不吃。真难吃。唯一可选就是北京烤鸭了，吃起来一般般。其他的美食都是中国各地的地方菜，川菜，东北菜，鲁菜，粤菜，清真等。因为有各国大使馆，外来驻京官员很多，有蛮多各种国家的特色餐厅，法餐，意大利餐，比利时餐，土耳其餐，印度餐厅等等。而真正的美食是官菜，一般人是没资格享受了。以前北京环境污染严重，沙尘暴，雾霾什么的很严重。现在治理好了，蓝天白云是常态。北京去一次旅游体验一下就可以了。不适合生活。
