Couldn't miss this one. Been probably 40 years since I was in Bora Bora, but it's a place you never forget. Although I lived in Hawaii at different times in my life (also beautiful), Bora Bora had a uniquely intense beauty. Don't remember a Bloody Mary's; assume it wasn't there back then. There was very little there actually. Stayed at a place owned by Jack Nicholson the 1st night. Three modern attached bungalows. Other 2 owned by other movie people. Stayed at the only tourist accommodations after that. Thatched bungalows on stilts in the bay. Incredible snorkeling right out our door. The owner was a bit of a misogynistic jerk, always stressed because his "workers" really weren't into working which I thought was fabulous. They needed a boss like a hole in the head! One day I'll have to dig out my slides if they haven't rotted away. This has inspired me. Hope the projector still works! Sail on! We're coming along for the adventure.

I has to stop this video halfway through, & wasnt able to wish you a Happy Valentines Day , so heres a belated wish for one. I guess my valentine was my cat, seeing how that is her name. Wherever you are , always hoping you're safe & content. What an amazingly beautiful place ! Who wouldnt want to live in a Postcard? I keep thinking how rough those islands must get in a hurricane, I think I might dig some underground shelter, not that it would save much, just- me. It looks like its an off day, everywhere you went, there didnt seem to be that many people which is nice ! Looking forward to seeing your last day there. Thank you.

Most sailors, including myself, would not leave their boat unattended under anchor at night because if it started dragging it’s an easy way to lose your boat…. Also my comfy bed vs. sleeping on the ground staring at my boat that has my comfy bed has no appeal 😂

That really wasn't 'sailing off the mooring', it was more as Woody would describe Buzz Light Year, as 'falling off the mooring with style'. To sail off the mooring use the main sail. Short tacks to port and starboard of the ball allows you to 'sail on up to the ball' where, getting it right, there ends up being no tension on the line to the ball and close to it, which is untied and brought smartly aboard as the boat sails past the ball to windward on which ever tack was 'the right tack' to leave on. What you did was how ever you got the boat close enough to the ball to release enough tension to free off the line to the ball, and then allowed the boat to fall off the ball without any control or drive [since there was no engine and no sails set at this time - there was no drive and no steerage - so you didn't 'sail off the mooring' you fell ], where you then hauled out some of the Genoa. The Genoa caught some wind, took the head of the boat off the wind and provided some drive to 'sail the boat'. Such a small bit of Genoa out wasn't really sailing, the Genoa was more of a weather cock to blow the head of the boat off the wind. This is why its worth practicing 'sailing off the mooring' because it takes some skill and judgement to get right. In your case, how you did it, you got it 100% 'correct' first time with no practice because it wasn't sailing off the mooring, it was falling off it. To know that you've sailed off the mooring, using sails alone, you should be able to leave the ball from a standing start and be up wind of the ball in a few minutes without having gone downwind first to gain speed and set the sails. Set the sail [mainsail alone] before you even begin to leave.
