Really appreciate you going through the more monotonous aspects of sailing like paperwork - as a new sailor my main anxiety is over docking procedures and just procedures in general, so this shines a light on what to expect! I loved your solo sail to Hawaii and especially that you filmed some of the radio stuff (another source of anxiety). Thanks for these vids! They inspire me to perhaps cast off lines myself someday

I so much enjoyed your pronunciation of "Gendarmerie" !!! Excellent !!! The moment I landed in Bora Bora with the sail boat I was on, in 1989, 2 tourists approached us as we were tying the ropes to secure the whole thing on the pier, they said : "Isn't that the perfect dream, mooring on a pier in Bora Bora, its a total fantasy" !!! They were right. Welcome to the ones that made it. ;) GENDARMERIE !!!

I have a question, what do you do in really bad weather, like have you been in a storm or something before? Is there an episode where we can see rough seas?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
If you sailing in any ocean, other than the southern ocean, during the correct time of year you never get yourself into dangerous situations with weather. All ocean sailing means dealing with squall’s especially in the tradewinds. These storms usually have winds between 20-30knots sometimes 40+ but they generally only last a short time. Video of “rough seas” is deceiving because a sea that is dangerous and miserable will look like nothing on video to someone watching at home. The worst weather I have had to sail through was 30-40knots between Fiji and NZ and the video is not out yet.

Hi. I'm headed there in a few months (flying in for personal reasons) and wanted to see if you had any photos of video of an old resort that is on the tip of TooPua facing Viatapi. It was wrecked by a typhoon and I wanted to get a look at it before I come so I can make plans. I've been watching your videos and you just miss it (like everyone else). I can give you an email, if you would rather. Thank you

Hi James, I’ve only done one short crossing (500 nm). It scared me. Ughh. That feeling of being very small & insignificant and at the mercy of an ocean that could swallow the boat up was at times, overwhelming. How do you deal with that? Or do you not ever get that feeling? I have followed, sailing KZbinrs for years, then finally got the opportunity and feel like I woosed out. What you do is super cool, but also very … stressful.

Second. Also: how do you keep your ship from being stolen or raided while you are away from it? Either in a slip, while anchored, or while you were provisioning in this video? Do you take your keys with you? Do you put a lock on the rolled up sails? What security measures have you implemented on your craft?
@SailorJames
@SailorJames Жыл бұрын
Have you ever tried to sell a boat? Ain’t no one stealing old sailboats 😂 I lock the companionway when I leave but theft isn’t a problem in most places that I visit. Keep the dinghy locked to the boat over night and all is good.

@@SailorJames I'd never thought about what to do with the stolen boat. I guess reselling market is not so big as to be sufficient cause for theft. I do have another question: do you play any musical instruments? I imagine it'd be so blissful to be on a passage and sitting on your bow and playing an instrument you love.
