Visiting Glencaple & heading south to The Peak District

We leave Scotland and head south to visit friends and family and then go our separate ways as Mandy has the final stages of training to complete for her new job and I have some jobs I want to do on my van, but I also manage to go on a snowy adventure too.

It is nice you having special memories of the Roaches, it is also very special to me as me and my late partner had a pagan wedding 16 years ago amongst the stones where we exchanged rings. I later returned there after her passing to bury the head band she had been wearing at the same spot so a part of her will always be there.

I did broach the subject of a van name a number of episodes back john I thought that cooper was a good name in honour of the little fella that made your lives so full and that the van gives you freedom and joy glad your both ok.

I think Virgin Media pinched the naming their vans idea from the airline Virgin Atlantic. I used to work for the airline, all the aircraft have names, some to go with their registration. Here’s a few examples we had G-VROY named Pretty Woman, G-VGAL NAMED Jersey Girl, but the one I really don’t know how they got away with was G-VPUF named High as a Kite. Take care guys, no crazy accidents while you’re apart. John stay off the toboggan and Mandy get outriggers on your bike!

Hi John. My memory Approx 57yrs ago. I went to judo club each week with my friend from school days. We'd been going for around 1yr. 2 girls came 1 night to try it out. 1 of them lived at Sutton-in-Ashfield where I lived. My friend who picked me up offered her a lift home. When we got near to her home. He stopped the car & suggested to me to walk her home. I said no. She got here OK on her own. He asked me again. I turned it down. He asked me for 3rd time. And I said OK. I eventually married that girl Pauline. And we were married for 55yrs. She very sadly passed away 2.5 yrs ago But if he hadn't asked that 3rd time. I would never had married her. And had 2 sons & 1 daughter & 2 grand daughters (twins) I'm now 79. We had our ups & downs. But got through our downs each time. Because we loved each other.

What a nice video. So many different things going on. You always find such nice parkups. Boy, that breakfast looked wonderful! I am glad that you decided to walk up that big hill instead of riding your bike. I think that could have been slippery. Beautiful view from there with the snow. The Mac and cheese looked delicious. Good job with that. I hope that Mandy does well with her tests and she comes back able to travel where ever you both want to go. I am looking forward to the next adventure. Safe travels.

Hey John & Mandy - What a great video, Really enjoyed this as it was nearer to our home location of Manchester. It's a place in my thoughts to visit with my own van eventually. You were only up the top end of the new A555 Buxton way, If I'd known I would of nipped up to say hello, You were about 20' minutes away. Plus John as mentioned in the video at 23.45, Absolutely agree with you, it was very fortunate Mandy hadn't badly hurt herself when cycling with you and it's appeasing to see you've both recovered well, Especially after your sledging incident John. Pleased to see you are both well. After getting our first camper van in late 2020, we chose the Roaches as our first overnight stop (5 December) because Derbyshire was the only COVID Tier 3 location at the time and what a lovely location to start our van life experience. All the best.

Love the boathouse, glencapple was my first ever car camp in 2021 when I returned to finish our holiday iin Scotland after my hubby passed away, been back several times since and yes, the breakfasts are delicious.

Nice one John. You were 25 minutes away from us up at Ramshaw Rocks. I went to night school doing sailing navigation classes with the son of the "Mr Ramshaw" who the rocks were named after. Possibly, but lifepo4 batteries are not all the same, so some will be ok & others won’t. It’s best to get specific advice.
