Visiting Governors Island in NYC

I lived on Governors Island in the early 80's with my father when he was in the US Coast Guard. It was one of the most amazing places I ever lived. I want so much to visit NYC again and bring my own son to see the island.

I lived there from 1961-66!So i remember Sandy Becker,the Great Blackout;etc.!!!The Worlds Fair;'The Sound Of Music' at Carnegie hall,etc.!!My best memories are there!!

Both my of children went to PS 26 (1983-1988) The statement about the new school been the first one , is because it will include Junior and Senior High. PS 26 was only until 6th grade. Also it was only for GI kids , now it will be open to everyone in the City . Sad to see Blgd 877 go .

@hermanoguzman Gov Island is definitely worth going to! The island under Queensboro is called Roosevelt Island, and we've done an episode on its vacuum-powered garbage tubes. Fascinating stuff! Search "Fast Trash" on KZbin to watch it if you haven't already.
