I appreciate you and applaud you for what you do with squatters. Anthony and his mom were at that location for eight years? I’m pretty sure that I heard that. There are so many things that contribute to homelessness. Mark Laita explores those aspects in his interviews on his channel and those issues aren’t easily fixed. I wish solutions were easy, but they’re not. You are a kind human, Flash. We need more of you in our world. Merry Christmas, Flash. ❤️

I beg to differ that we caused this. My parents grew up during the depression. Mom collected coal from the RR tracks for the stove. Dad and my uncles returned from WWII and entered the trades, sharing a single car and living space while they got established. Can always blame drug use, ptsd and mental illness, but those things also existed in the 1940s. Then, ptsd was shell-shock and there was no treatment other than a state hospital.

@@bobcaygeon975 understood. My experience however is that of Dad comes back from Vietnam. Lack of services and help causes hardships and mental issues and me and my family homeless. We survived and picked ourselves back up but many aren’t able to. When I say we as a nation caused this in some way I’m referring to lack of services and dedication to our countries needs.

It is unfortunate that you lack compassion for those living in a system far different from what your homeless family members experienced. The homeless population of the past was much smaller and was often viewed as a temporary situation until the economy improved or opportunities presented themselves. Many homeless had extended family and lived in a period of housing and job booms. The economy today has created far more homeless and the homeless are on the streets for far longer and often include families. There is a lack of services and opportunities to assist with the needs of mental illness, addiction, health issues, job training, and childcare. The days of pull yourself up by boot straps is severely hampered by the fact that there is a severe lack of affordable housing and job opportunities are limited, plus without an address, cell phone, a place to get clean, or have proper clothing the chances of any job is slim in a world that looks very much removed from the 1940's.

Love you and what you do, but I hope you are taking good care of yourself. Although you seem to handle these situations with grace, no doubt they are stressful. Give yourself some space to be peaceful. Happy, healthy new year to you and yours.

Here on Maui we have lots of ppl living in cars & tents since the devastating fires in lahaina. I live in my van and i own my biz mobile dog grooming. I cant afford the rentals $4k, $5k and even $1ok/month for studios & 1bdroom. None of them allow for pets so many ppl live in their cars. I really appreciate kind souls who dont judge so harshly. If u see ppl living in tents, dont b an azzhole, maybe leave them some water, food, trash bags, wipes, dog food- whatever. If u dont understand the difficulties these ppl r challenged with either educate yourself or drive on. Also ppl need help getting rid of trash, so maybe help with that. Be kind or f off

Pets will ruin an apartment. Stains, claw marks and smells that cannot be eliminated. Pet owners prefer not to realize this, because their Pet is the best, most well behaved ever.

Hopefully they are well. The lady who walked up behind you has no respect by throwing trash on the ground. That’s why a lot of the homeless get pushed out because it becomes an eye soar. We have to do better!

Flash do you see any correlation between your squatters and rising rents? I'm about your age and I don't remember squatters being a thing back then. Of course rents were much more reasonable and in line with wages.
@mwatercress19 күн бұрын
More government restrictions on building increases rents as do attacks on private property rights. That is why the median home in California sells for ten times the median income while in Texas it sells for 5 times the median income.

Sadly, the City most likely moved them out of the area. Saw it happen when I lived in Tujunga..poof.. In Pacoima, Sunland.
