The Andes Mountains offers some of the best scenery in the world. We go to the top of the mountains in the longest and highest cable car in the world, explore the local food and feed hummingbirds at a hummingbird sanctuary. Will you be travelling to Venezuela? I'd recommend Merida, the capital if the state with the same name. There's plenty of places to stay, and things to see and do in this city, surrounded by the Andes Mountains. If you plan a longer stay, one reason for this is studying Spanish abroad. As a matter of fact, Merida is a popular place to study Spanish, as the Spanish spoken in Merida is one of the purest and is not spoken especially fast. There are several Spanish language schools in town. We'd recommend taking the Teleferico de Merida, also known by its indigenous name Mukumbari. It's the world's longest and (one of the) highest cable car ride. You'll be able to take your Spanish language learning to new heights, quite literally. Besides the cable car ride, there's plenty to see and do include people-watching the Bolivar Square, where there is an excellent equestrian statue of Simon Bolivar.

On a scale of 1 to 10. 10 being the highest. How safe is Merida, Venezuela for ya?

Merida is the safest city in Venezuela. If 10 is the safest, I would say an 8 from my experience when I was there. I went out late in the night and never felt like anywhere I went was unsafe at any time. However, I do not want to give it a 10 because crime does still happen!

Would you say that it is safe to live there for 1 year with kids if you aren’t from the area and come from the US? In the Alto Chama or Perregosa area specifically. My wife is originally from there and has some family but our daughter and myself aren’t. Compared to Canada, how safe is it from a 1-10? Thanks for the help.
