I know I can't personally make you a bigger KZbinr but you definitely deserve it. You are a Great story teller, you don't just focus on one person or persons on every video and that makes you unique and deserve more. If by any chance a living relative comes across a video that you happen to be showing in their families resting place, it might just bring peace to them that the person's memory isn't lost.

When Pat heard about the auditions for The Karate Kid, he called the casting director and said he was interested in reading for the part of Mr. Miyagi. John G. Avildsen, the director, said Pat was not right for the part because he had always done comedy before Pat ever auditioned. Pat's manager asked Avildsen to at least let him read for the part, and Avildsen said he would. Pat grew out his beard and hair, went to the audition using his real name of Noriyuki Morita, changed his voice to how he pictured Mr. Miyagi would speak, read only 3 lines before Avildsen told Pat he had heard enough, and said "we have found our Mr. Miyagi.

Now that you mention the internment camps, Pat Morita, himself was too young to have served during World War II, but his character in Karate Kid did. There was actually a Japanese American regiment that saw action in Europe during the war, which was made up largely of volunteers from the camps. Their attitude was something to the effect of: We are not Japs. We are just as American as anyone else and we intend to prove it through military service. There are a few scenes in cobra Kai were Daniel visits Myagi’s grave and on his headstones we see that he was a Medal of Honor recipient and a combat veteran of the 442 regiment.

@@daren7889 yes he was, and the great thing about George Takia is that he isn't afraid to talk about it either. Many of our ancestors that went through them don't. It is just things they don't discuss. Many that were released were homeless afterwards. They literally just opened the door and said you're free to go. That 20,000 bucks was not offered to them till the late 80's as an official apology from the American government, Regan is who signed the bill for it. When they gathered them up they literally had 15 days to sell all they had and then when they put the money in the banks to have when they got back, banks would say that they lost their account and they had no money. The prejudice they faced was horrible.

Man, this was funny as hell!!! I know Redd Foxx loaned Pat some money early on so he could buy a home. Redd helped many people over the years. It wasn't just wasted on the high life. Both my parents were in camp and got the 20K. My dad spent his money planting trees on his property. Twenty grand got you a lot of trees. All are still healthy and huge! Watch out for those Cobra Kai dudes, Lamont.

And how easily he keeps his composure and carries on with his thing the random times police or others approach and interrupts him mid video is admirable. I was actually typing this as I heard him touch on this topic. I don't think he's overly rude with then at all. He's out minding his own business, trying to make a living like the rest of us.

Pat's family owned a restaurant at around 3rd St and Capitol Mall (then Capitol Avenue) here in Sacramento. The neighborhood that the restaurant was in, Japantown, was torn down for redevelopment in the late 1950's because the city of Sacramento considered the West End section of the central city to be an urban slum and it was a bad image for the city’s gateway. The redevelopment displaced several thousand people who lived there, mostly of Asian, Black, and Latino dissent and who were poor. There are videos here on KZbin that show the redevelopment of Sacramento's West End and its impact on the residents of the area and the city.

My cousin had Tuberculosis, when he was a kid of about 5 or 7 in the 1960’s or ‘70’s. He had to have a lung removed. He’s still alive to this day.
