Suncoast was the only place that ever sold the Widescreen editions of VHS tapes. I remember Fox had this awesome gold case they would use. I always had to go there to get those because even as a kid, I was a movie snob. Would always have to drop like 30 bucks for the widescreen but it was worth it.

This was my favorite store at Monmouth Mall. Went to the mall the other day and saw it finally closed. Seemed like it happened out of nowhere as I'm at this mall a lot. I'm honestly heartbroken over it. It was definitely the highlight of this mall.

Amazing to see a Suncoast store. It hasn't changed much since I worked at one in the mid-90s. They used to play the latest hit movie on a loop. I must have memories all the lines from Forest Gump at the time. Ruuuuun! Forest! Ruuuuun! (Also liked playing the surprisingly good "Goofy Movie")

Last time I was in a mall was years ago and it was sad to see so many stores closed and kinda eerie how empty it was. A far cry from the mall's popularity in the 90s...when arcades also still existed. I remember the town getting excited that Sears was getting added to the local mall as an anchor store...and now Sears is dead.

Who remembers paying $40 in 1990's money for a VHS with 2 episodes of anime? Let's be honest, stores like Suncoast and Blockbuster were middlemen who scalped their customers. OTOH, you lose something when you don't have physical media that you can touch, because that's part of what your mind remembers and associates with. Going to a real place and having interactions with people was part of it too. 30 years later I remember conversations I had with clerks at these stores and how it looked and felt walking around these places.

I grew up frequenting this mall. We hung out there through our teenage years. Tons of memories there. The property was acquired and is being redeveloped to include residences. There’s also a medical office in the parking lot now. The movie theater was always pretty busy even as the rest of the mall suffered. But I think COVID has probably done a number on that too.

That Suncoast was able to get anything you wanted. I had friends order obscure anime and other foreign DVDs from there and they’d get them. I wouldn’t be surprised if someone bought the rights to the name and is operating it independently nowadays because whoever ran it 20 years ago had the hookup.

I used to live in Beaumont/Groves area and then I moved to Conroe/Houston area and the Woodlands mall had one, but that one closed somewhere around ‘05 or so I think. Hard to remember exactly. Ahhhhh, total nostalgia! As I kid I loved this store at the South Park Mall in Strongsville, OH in the early 2000's! I'd buy a lot of toys there. It's sad the internet killed good stores for collectibles like this... KB toys was amazing too and has sadly been gone for years! I also never thought the world would have no Toys R Us stores any more in the US! Crazy! Also I miss how back in the day, stores in the mall and in general weren't flooded with Funko Pops! I mean seriously, they're so overrated and kinda weird looking and I miss when they didn't exist and stores would have all good quality collectibles rather than cheap looking toys that all almost look the same! Damn... I wish I could stay in the 2000's forever! I'm such a freak for nostalgia!

BAD NEWS: Suncoast Video is closed. My friend just sent me pic of the front, they removed the sign and no sign of them. I found your video after I heard the news. This mall has become a ghost town. Most of the stores are closed, no on is going and the only place that seem to profit are the AMC and Barnes and Nobel(both separate buildings). But through Covid, Suncoast stayed open…until now. Bummed I didn’t have the chance to go one last time. Alot of great memories here.

Ironically, the JcPenny's will close as of October 2022- and of course, this Suncoast is one of the last times most people will see one in the wild- this one has gone the way of most in 2022, that is closed. The three Suncoasts that remain are a ghost of the golden age of malls, probably only a larger remnant than the two Sam Goody's left as of this posting.

This mall seems to be in worse shape than Freehold Raceway, which lost about half of its big box stores in a year. Freehold still has a large variety of stores and still pretty busy at times. I think the reason why there doesn't seem to be that many stores is because the owners want to redevelop the mall and possibly bring in upscale tenants.

@@RayOutThere its going to peak people interests because its new however i cant see it surviving being outside of the city the shift from suburbs to city life is different if it were in the city it probably would survive because its in the city and not in a wetland they had to destroy
