for the 90 minutes and daily cap would you still have to tap the card? what happens if you forget to tap the card? will the bus still stop for you? is there a mechanism to check for people who do not tap their cards?

For the bus you only have to tap once when you get in the bus. You cannot forgot to tap leap card within the bus. The driver might check on you if you do not. For other modes of transport like Dart and train ( luas) you have to tap in and tap out at boarding and destination station’s respectively . If you forget to tap in before getting on the luas and if you get caught by luas ticket check members then you will have to pay a fine. You cannot forget to tap in dart station as the barrier gates won’t let you inside station . In either case if you forget to tap out it will be your loss and you wont get a credit back if you have travelled short. It’s usually not that cold in August but I would anyway recommend you to carry warm cloths as the weather in Ireland is very unpredictable.

Yes you can buy leap cards at airport but if you are a student you can get student leap card that are having lower fare prices but that you cannot buy student leap card in airport. I would say don’t buy regular leap card in airport and instead directly get your student leap card made by visiting dublin bus office. Student leaps cannot be brought in Stores. You have to submit your college documents in dublin bus office in city center.
