Visordown Motorcycle Reviews: Unless you spent last year living under a rock, you’ll know all about the Yamaha MT-10.
It’s the king dick of Yamaha’s popular MT range - notorious for its distinctive looks and R1-derived 998cc four-cylinder crossplane crank engine.
The MT-10’s motor includes new pistons and a new cylinder design, a new airbox, heavier crank and gearing thanks to a 43-tooth rear sprocket.
It’s tuned to be more useable on the road, with a greater spread of torque through the midrange. The result is 160hp and 81.9lb/ft torque, plus near-universal praise from the majority of people who’ve had a go on one.
Now Yamaha has decided to ramp things up with the new MT-10 SP - a sportier version of the MT-10. The recipe for this new SPecial version of the already not-at-all-run-of-the-mill MT-10 is: take one MT-10, add Öhlins active suspension front and rear, a colour TFT instrument panel, R1M-inspired paint job, plus a quickshifter, and enjoy.
And enjoy we did - you’d have to be dead inside not to enjoy riding this bike. It’s got an engine that had us cackling wildly inside our helmets every time we got on the gas with intent.

I prefer the looks of Super Duke 1290, but way to expansive insurance so its not even a valid choice for me.

Ive heard one of the top 10 bikes ever made. The range sucks thoe. 120 miles per tank.

Great looking,, eats tyres, chains and sprockets, drinks fuel like a Irishman on a stag do, love it,,, smiles per miles, picked mine up 3 weeks ago,, never test drove one, one word,, Wow,,

I would like to upgrade to an MT-10 from an 07 at somepoint. The SP model is so enticing but I'd be still happy if I can get my hands on the standard one.

With the Ducati streetfighter coming out Yamaha now need to fit full blown R1 motor in the Mt10.

Why? The MT10 has much better mid range than the R1. As a road bike the MT10 is better in most cases. If you want a track bike then get an R1. Easy.

Every review whines about the brakes, as if they are some fatal flaw that nothing short of a full system replacement can remedy. Fact is, by swapping in some EBC EPFA track/street pads up front, my '16 R1 and '17 FJ09 brakes are both transformed with far better initial bite, power/grab and improved modulation. No reason to suspect the FZ10 would be any different. Yeah, it's ~$120 upgrade & 15 minutes of time, but it's not the big deal these silly reviews call it out to be...

anyone touring on a bike like this will buy a nice screen from Yamaha and nice seat from Yamaha , so you can tour on ANY bike ! yes the tank is small but guess what you should really stop every 100 miles anyway to stretch a little . i would definitely go for mt 10 sp as i test ride the normal 2017 mt10 and the suspension was lazy

Agreed. Or.. buy the standard blue model and have the swinger blasted n clear coated? I do love the Ohlins, TFT screen and paint, but are they really worth the extra? Hmm. Shame they're thirsty, hence poor range, their only real flaw

I've got a deposit for a blu/silver 2022 since 21's they say are gone. Blue available but not for me. Has anyone heard what colors are in store for the new 22 mt10?

I hear they are real heavy on fuel consumption ?? Is it really that bad !! What is the milage or Kms per full tank on average

I get 39.6mpg average and about 112miles before the fuel light on the original MT-10 (not the SP)

Same tank range as the R1. So not really a true tourer, lovely and easy to ride though.

indeed, it's an amazingly easy to ride bike, feels light, well balanced and plenty fast enough when poked with a sharp stick

montha123 Its lighter than my R1. I'm only 30 miles in at the moment so will post some real world reviews when I'm north of 1k. Which won't be too long I hope 👍🏁🇬🇧

Srsly? Try a more upright and sensible riding position for the street instead of being crouched over in attack mode every time you throw a leg over it. Much more comfort and you won't be reaching for the ibuprofen at the end of the day. Oh, and also less attention from the cops, even if you are riding at spirited paces lol.

Disappointing they didn't fix the abysmal 135 mile fuel range with a FJ/Tracer upgrade, instead of slapping bags/seat/windscreen on the toy model and calling it a "touring version". Oh well, they've saved me some money..I'll stick with my FJ09 for now.

Ditto. The super short fuel range, combined with color choices in the US that are either juvenile (putty/day-glow yellow wheels?) or black (too hot in my climate), convinced me to buy a different bike for the road,

Given the SP's competitors (KTM SDR & Tuono) it needs 15 to 20 more HP. Just doesn't make sense to me anyways to have an elite version of the bike with no motor work.

Are you considering the price different too? $3,000 LESS that either of those two is soenthing to really consider! I tried all 3 of those bikes! ,..well I'm in the US so no the SP BUT base FZ10 (MT10) the base model was literally HALF what the tuono Factory was, and half the SDR 2.0 sooooo...... went clearly with the FZ10 , did EBC pads, T-pipe , NelsTune on the ECU and race filter and made 182 hp, more than both the other two and it cost me $550! Bought the bike new for $9,250 US (got a deal from dealer) add $550 =$9,800! That's $7,700 LESS that either of the other two IF you can find either of them, make more power and same performance , actually BONE stock the MT10 has a quicker 0-60 that either of the two you mentioned so hp is relative , depends what you want it for not to mention it all comes down to rider, I out lap liter bikes on my FZ10 at track days. Granted obviously they are pro riders but neither and I , point is saying it's so underpowered when it would take a professional to tell any difference on power is rediculous . I rode all ,3 , only difference in power I noticed was the torque on the SDR, rightfully so being 1,301 cc's. But once I did my cheap $550 mods and outperform both and save nearly $8,000 doing it, what a the point in buying the exotics? MT10 won bike of the year by 4 of the big magazines in 2017! As im bike of the head, ANy bike, ANY type, must be bs huh. Lol the sad thing is that all the trash talking on he MT10 99% of you have never rode one, so how do you comment? Becaue it have 10 LESS hp? That makes it suck? Doubt you've been on any of the 3 but either way , if you d simply try one , I promise you you'd never rash it again may not be for you depending on style you like and ride by it's undeniably a beast and the best bargain out there! The ONLY Japanese Supernaked and it competes with the ultimate exotics Snakeds for nearly half the price Soooo... yeah! Oh and did I say it's from the most reliable bike manufacturer on Earth? With the greatest dealer networks and accessibility of ANy manufacture on earth? Dirt cheap parts that are quality!? Don't get me going on aprilia Italian quality , not quality if they break down ALL the time and are a fortune to fix! I had a Ducati 999R Filia and unserstand Italian exaotics beautiful but steer clean unless you're rich! I sold my MT10 a month ago after 2 years, I've rode em all and now a month later getting another. Not the sdr or the Factory , the amazing MT10.! The fact that at SP exists is beyond me ultra high performance , exotic Supernaked parts on and MT10 with all that reliability!? I'd kill to get them in the states. Just my .02! ,

@@lingenfelterzeeohhsix8154 well said that man. I've just purchased an SP and think it's simply amazing. Being a vehicle technician I wouldn't purchase an Italian bike either 4 the reasons u stated, but I'm sure they make good ornaments. Best bike bar none.

I am frustrated with the MT-10. It would be a natural path to go for me from the MT-09. But I really can not accept the look of it. It´s just a big no no in my book. In my opinion Yamaha have no bike that is good looking atm ( except the new MT-07). So as a Yamaha fan I just hope that they are getting a little inspired by the new, beautiful Kawasaki Z900RS. A bike from Yamaha with a simular look and a MT-09 or MT-10 engine and I would sign the papers directly. Without hesitation.

hahahah same thoughts :D just front is what i dont like from other sides it looks like tipical nice naked or supersport ^_^ every part of the bike is always changable ^_^ im thinking of seling my fz1n wich is old r1 naked and getting this but changing frong light with old my fz1n :D with some customizations wich will look like muscle naked and sexy :D

Thats why MT series is the best, because it doesn't look "typical". Its modern, aggressive, new, bold, and I, and many more, like the way it looks. I even bought MT - 09 over MT-07 just because of the looks only. You want oldsmobile type of naked, buy another manufacturer or sport heritage
