It's been a long time coming, a crossplane-R1 powered naked bike to replace the FZ1. The FZ-10 is finally that bike! In this episode of On Two Wheels, get started with Ari in the shop where he'll discuss how the FZ-10 was made, then saddle up with Zack on the Tail of the Dragon to find out what it actually feels like to ride. Lastly, hang out with the guys in the garage as they discuss the rivals that the FZ-10 has to face off against on the road.

Just found out about this show today since I'm currently looking into an FZ-10 to (eventually) replace a Z1000 that was mercilessly t-boned by a negligent driver. How did I not know about this!? It's like if Top Gear was about bikes and the hosts were super good-looking. Anyway, watched quite a lot of it as I currently have A LOT of time and things like walking still aren't on the agenda. Thanks a lot for brightening the day of this temporarily couch-confined motorcyclist!

Regardless of what some might think, your reviews are awesome and provide even the average rider valuable information AND the enthusiasm and fun you bring into each show is a refreshing change from the sterotypical two-wheel reviews on YT. Hope you guys don't plan to discontinue your show for many years to come. Cheers!

Dont sweat about getting a bigger cc motorcycle... I see way too many decent riders jump on a 1000 or equivalent and perform worse than on there 125cc, or 250cc bikes. They cant ride corners anymore and only put power to the ground on straights... Since i live in the german countryside (lots of twisties) i can getaway from them pretty easy on my wr450fsupermoto... and they always look at me like im crazy 😂

I just road a brand new 2017 FZ 07 in Glacier Blue home today. My last street bike was an 82 CB750 Super Sport. Having not ridden in a decade, this motorcycle felt comfortable right out of the gate. Like most old farts, I can't believe the torque the things have. Even with a big catalytic converter hanging off of it, it pulls like a 450 and a half. I can see myself putting many, many miles on this machine!

Another great bike by Yamaha! Honda are you watching? Your getting left way behind! And Imo this class of bike will soon put the full superbikes out of business, as in nobody is buying them. Just ask Honda!!

I can see your point, but I've ridden nothing but nakeds since my first SV650, and the wind during highway rides has never bothered me. To each his own though. As far as the track, I was alluding more to open track days, not racing per se.

You are right about Honda sucking ass. But nakeds will never out perform superbikes until they make them with the same horsepower as superbikes.

Any modern literbike is pushing near 200 hp. Even a last gen CBR1000 is faster than any of these naked bikes. THAT'S what I'm talking about.
@spoonman73
@spoonman73 7 жыл бұрын
Lol ok keep cherry picking the few examples of bikes ( the most expensive ones no doubt) that are close but still behind even previous generations of literbikes. When, as you know, the majority of the naked class still falls way short in the power department. Z1000(140hp), GSXs1000(150hp) CB1000r (125hp) Speed Triple(140hp) S1000r(160hp).......need I go on? Hell, I could go out and buy a 10 year old "outdated" GSXR and still be faster than most nakeds. Face facts and stop acting like a smitten little Bieber fangirl.

Subbed! Been following you goofballs for a while now and figured I might as well make it official and ask your channel to go steady O_O. I appreciate the work you guys and MC puts in, especially considering that over the last two months I successfully built my own bike from an old heap of a Honda NX125, then taught myself to ride on it (I must say ripping every bolt out of a motorcycle and learning how they operate is a fantastic way to familiarize ones self with a motorcycle before learning to ride for the first time). I am now in the market to buy a 500-650-ish cc go machine thats more modern and can be comfy on long hauls and your videos have been a fantastic source of information not only during my search for a modern bike, as well as when I got lost during the build process. THANKS! Keep on keeping on. (P.S. sorry this post is a bit long winded)

I wanted a1290 Super Duke R, then I saw all the issues with it if you actually ride it hard....I will not pay 17k for an oil leaking bike with wobbly rear bearings and all the other issues. The Yamaha will be reliable and far cheaper to own in the long run. Too bad the KTM is the only bike made where tall people can be comfortable... so I wont buy another bike. Im probably just going back to dirt riding since the street bikes are all made for short people.

I have to say, I enjoy my MT10 more than my Super Duke R. The SD vibrates like crazy compared to the MT10 and I think the MT10 just handles better in every situation. Just because it is European does not mean "exotic" I think they are all great bikes but the MT10 is equal at the very least to every one of those bikes and it will most certainly be the most reliable.

Yamaha has trademarked the moniker "Tracer GT" in Europe as of 4/17. In Europe, this bike is the MT10...and one owner there deftly coined it the "Empty 10" due to the short (~135 miles) fuel range. You can try touring on that in the US, but you'd better fill your luggage with fuel bottles. Sold my FZ09, but enjoying my 17 FJ09 (~200 mile fuel range) quite a bit, especially with the Ohlins suspension I just installed. I am interested in something like an FJ10. Fill those fake scoops on the tank with gas, add a more comfy seat, keep the sporty suspension, throw in some red, white and blue paint choices (skip the blurple and dayglo wheels, please), maybe dial back (at least shorten) the bug beak, and you will have another winner. :)

Looks much better in Race Blu and in the UK the Tuono costs £3k more, KTM £4k more and the BMW £2k when you spec it up to match. Suzuki GSX-S1000A and Kawasaki Z1000 are cheaper. (I personally think the Suzuki and Kawasaki look better quality than the MT-10).

For fucks sake Yamaha, why not offer FZ-10 with the full on R1 engine as an option? Anytime a manufacturer says it's been "tuned for bottom end and midrange" means that it has been deballed. Some of us WANT the full tilt-boogie engine. Think how much fun the S1000XR would be with an S1000RR engine in it. Or the Ninja 1000 with the full tilt-boogie ZX10 engine in it. Fail of the dragon? Isn't Motorcyclist located in SoCal? Let us know how much you like the bike once you run it up 33 and Lockwood Valley road.

Unless you are 5'-6" tall and weigh 130 lbs plus have the riding ability of Marq Marquez, you will NEVER reach the racing potential of any of these bikes. It is absurd to argue which bike is "better". In the real world, where we ride on the street, the FZ-10 has far and away more potential than any talented squidder can ever achieve. With those Darth Vader looks, and the low price, it's a slam dunk. Make mine Black.

I enjoyed your review of the new FZ-10. Having ridden the Dragon numerous times and loving to ride on the edge of my tires, I was hoping to hear a little more regarding the handling qualities. The Dragon has many "bowls" that end (riding South to North) with a slight decreasing radius. I am spoiled in that my 02' BMW RT and my current 09' BMW R1200R both displayed no braking "stand-up" while heeled over (riding 2-up). Also, the neutrality of its' handling character. I know tires can greatly affect that! It was disappointing to hear that Yamaha didn't pay as much attention on the braking components a bike like theirs deserves. It is their "Naked-Bike" flagship after all! My Beemer's excel here too. I rode a FJR once and I found its' handling great but the brakes were shockingly poor. In fairness, it was a used bike and I don't know what kind of care and maintenance had been given it. Can you do a long term review and slap some braided lines on it to see if that would markedly improve them? Thanks

Let's get this straight. The FZ version of the R-1 is the FZ-1, or FZ-01 as it's also known. If the FZ-10 was a cross between the R-1 and the MT-09 it would most likely have 3 cylinders, not 4. This is simply a detuned, or re-tuned version of the R-1. But it's a fat pig in comparison, even to the current FZ-1. No one I know goes sport touring on a 3 gallon tank. Shame on Yamaha. They're doing this on way too many new models, including all the Heritage versions. 4 1/2 - 5 gallons please, you conglomerate assholes. Ok, that's my rant.

Those three European nakeds may be some fierce competition. BUT... None of them are near the legendary reliability of Yamaha, so the FZ-10 will be my sport bike pick. Thanks for the awesome content. Looking forward to a comparison between the four. Can you even do those when it's just the two of you? Do you have a couple extra co-hosts laying around? :) Oh, and once again: Cheap, used bikes from the 80s and 90s that aren't, well, shit. Would LOVE if you did episodes on that. Maybe you can ride viewers' bikes? Maybe that's how you'd do the setup and how you'd get a hold of the used bikes you need?

Pretty notable that there was no mention of the S1000R in the outtro. The Super Duke and the Tuono have been at the top of my list since they were released, but unfortunately I have more of a GSXS-1000 budget (not sure how the pricing stacks up in the US, but here the MT-10 is about 30% more than the GSXS, while the Tuono and Superduke are about 65% more). If I made the stretch (or went used), how do the Euro bikes stack up against the Japanese these days in terms of everyday reliability and cost of ownership?

The fz10 brakes are awful for me they need changing immediately BIG EXPENSIVE UPGRADE. The plastics are all loose and flap about. The taillight looks LIKE an afterthought and it has just been stuck to the back of the seat. What with the clutch cables that flap around Granted the engine is great but there is a lot wrong with this bike

Zach, how about a long term test on this bike. PLEASE!!!! Could you comment on the amount of heat from the engine or radiators hitting your legs, and is the airflow off the bug deflector smooth, any handlebar vibration. Maybe throw on Yamaha's tall screen, and let us know how the airflow is from it. You are about my height, that makes you the perfect Ginnie Pig:)! I want this bike so bad I can feel it in my nether regions. As long as it doesn't suck on the highway (airflow), or in the city on 85+ degree days (engine heat). Keep up the good work, love this channel and your work at the magazine!

Hi, nice video! But: I own the new R1 fittet it with Ktech open cartridge and raceshock and dunlop D212 and I bought the MT10 wich I also fittet it with the same Ktech suspension (slightly softer front and harder rear than R1) and the R1 has real trouble keeping up with the MT10 on the road. Both bikes are fast but the MT10, on the road at least is now also faster than my ZX10R 2012 streetfighter I had. Thats something that the Tuono, the S1000R and the KTM wich I all test rode would have big trouble replicating. The MT10 is the fastes bike for the road in my experience! I am a bit buffled my self. I bought it because it was fun on the road but the speed it can generate is quite something. The brake pump like you mentioned does not keep up with the bike nor do the stock tires. I fittet the R1 brake pump. One tip: If you get a after market shock for R1 for the MT10 makes sure it has a harder spring than the R1 would have on a race shock. There is alot of weight in the back on the MT10. regards
