Art Journaling is an easy, effective visual exercise that you can do on a regular basis as a refreshing way to renew your artistic thinking and process. This video talks about different techniques for creating mixed media collages in a visual journal including: searching for imagery in art magazines, using xeroxes from books, stickers, rubber stamps, drawing approaches using gel pens and various markers to create a cohesive visual statement in your visual journal. Demo led by Art Prof Teaching Artist Lauryn Welch and RISD Adjunct Professor Clara Lieu.

Clara Lieu was an Adjunct Professor at the Rhode Island School of Design from 2007-2020. Her artwork has been exhibited at the International Print Center NY, the Currier Museum, Childs Gallery, the Davis Museum, and more. Lieu received an artist fellowship from the MA Cultural Council, has written for the NY Times, and lectured at Brown University, the NAEA conference, and in Vancouver & China. Ha, ha, the Cockie is Lauren's spirit animal. The Cockie is one of the most feared animals to encounter in our vet practice. If it's a pet, it will act like it wants to cooperate but will continually frustrate your attempts to examine it and then laugh at you. If it's an injured wild one, it just wants to kill you. You gotta control that beak; it can literally snap your finger off!
