8:30 it’s called atmospheric perspective: it happens because we are viewing objects through an atmosphere of air that diffuses the light the further away the viewer is.

Your radish made me smile. Rice paper is not smooth. It is quite textured with fibers running through it. I'm a beginner and never thought about painting on it, but I would think you might find it a nice challenge. I do like the colors in those paints.
