Love that its still here in 2023 being a nuisance in these group tests.

Nuisance is a good way of putting it. It’s a good bike but has its clear hang ups. It just keeps hangin in there with these new bikes. Feels like we’re reaching peak geometry and frame linkage design.

Had this bike since 2020 and I love it. It not being as playful is an accurate complaint, however it is a race bike so playfulness isn't its priority. Still sending huge hits on it with no problem so don't let that complaint draw you away from the bike.

I got one in the spring . I’m 5’ 10 and inbetween a M & L. I went with a S3,Put a stiffer spring in, run the chip in high. For a heavy, 170mm bike I think it’s really quite lively.

Pretty odd to be testing S5 which is a giant bike. I recently bought an S4 with Fox 38 Performance Elite, X2 Performance Shock, and X01 DERAILER for $4700. Wish you could have tested it, really a great bike.

Pretty hard to get the full sense of how a bike performs if it is too big for you. Weird that they sent them an S5.. Thats a huge bike. Crazy how this thing still is a top contender after 4 years. Specialized really got it right with the Enduro

If you watch the rest of the videos from this year's test sessions, this was actually a pretty common complaint about the various bikes, not just the Specialized. We told the six companies our heights and weights and they sent the bike they recommend based on that info. We tested the bikes they sent us. I think the only bike that no one complained about being too long was the Nukeproof, which was also the shortest bike on test. So maybe that says something about the trends in the bike industry, or maybe the three of us are just weird. Your call.

@@charliesponsel5091 Definitly, brands want to stick with their findings. At 6ft 3in, I ride an S4 Kenevo SL which is equivalent sizing to the Enduro lineup. S5 would be great as you say for faster rowdier tracks, but alas then switchbacks/slower stuff would just be a real pain.

For the oneup dropper, if you want less rotational play, just install the tighter tolerance shims. As an owner of a Kenevo SL S4 at 6ft 3, I will stick with the Enduro S4. I too feel that the S5 is way too long for my proportions.

I'm 5"11 and used a XL (S5) and found that this was OK, though I prefer S4 (and definitely don't like the S3, cramped). To some degree these depend on people, but I imagine some 6"3 will like the S5 if they like to plow f.e.

I'm 6'0 and I tried my friend's s3, I have shorter arms than I should for my height and it felt pretty good, but when the seat was up I felt like I was grasping for the bars because the seat was too slack. The suspension is pretty wild too, its VERY stable and planted. I've actually ended up getting a Vitus Sommet in large for my personal bike and I'd say it feels just as good, but with a better seat angle.

I am 5'10" on a good day, 150lbs with gear. I ride an S2 sworks enduro with a 180mm zeb and an overstroked rear with around 180mm. It is my favorite bike ever, the wheelbase is pretty normal reach is a bit short but the bike is plush and superrrr playful. A little bit unstable at high speed but personally I love it so much. I think I will be getting another S3 enduro while they're on sale and swap components from the sworks to the new s3 frame.

That skinny lanky guy’s comment was stupid. “ if your tall and under 200 pounds, this is the bike for you” bro not everyone is built like a tree branch! Most dudes over 6ft are over 200 pounds by default! Do yourself a favor and eat a sandwich. There’s no way specialized will spec a size xl frame from the factory for dudes under 200 pounds. That’s BS, I’m around 5’10 at 215 with a six pack.. what does that mean for an average height and built or bigger type of guy?? Are size medium frames set up from the factory for guys under 100 pounds in weight?
@charliesponsel5091
@charliesponsel5091 Жыл бұрын
First off, congrats on your six pack. I can see it in your shirtless profile picture, and it looks very muscle-y. I've never had what I would consider a six pack, so I respect the effort required. Onto your feedback about the test: I was one of the three bike testers, and I can confirm that I watched Lear eat lots of sandwiches during the week of our bike test, so I don't think his sandwich-eating status is a problem. Something interesting about the current MTB market is that most full suspension bikes come with the same suspension kinematics and same shock tune for all the size ranges, which means it's very common for stock suspension to be too soft for taller and heavier riders or too firm for shorter and lighter riders. So your complaint might be better directed at mountain bike companies for their limited optimization for different body types. That said, the Specialized rode well for me (under 200 pounds) and for Jonny (over 200 pounds), so maybe it's a non-issue for you. It was just Lear who didn't get along with the Specialized, and again, for distinctly non-sandwich-related reasons.
