No. 1 complaint: so hard to clean in the Linkage Area No. 2 complaint: my frame cracked inside the Swat Box. No. 3 complaint: lack of grease - the factory must have been out of grease when the assembled my frame

Bikes not being greased is such a big yet seldomly talked about problem with new bikes across many manufacturers its maddening. Kind of a shame when you or someone you know pays many thousands of dollars for something that has to be disassembled and greased before it can be ridden.

I have overhauled two of these bikes from the ground up. They are garbage. No grease like you said. The bearings are most times pressed in way to tight so they developed a nasty creak. Overall just a bad bike. I felt like I was doing a damper service tearing apart the linkage.

@@maximosmorgan9727 yeah, as long as you’ve got a torque wrench it’s no problem. I had to increase the air pressure in the shock quite a bit. It feels a ton better off the top and ramps up substantially, giving more to push into when cornering or pumping undulations on trail. It gave me more pop off lips and kept it planted through chunder and rocky sections. I’m planning on throwing a coil on because I think it will seriously take this bike that much closer to being just as capable as a DH rig. I’ll have a review posted soon on my channel.

As an Enduro owner...not so much. I’m getting now weird noises but I think it might come from the swat tool...probably running my fork to stiff. For really really tight corners it feels not the best but regular corners rips. I think it is one the best bikes and it is amazing how well it pedals.

I bought the expert build mostly because I really liked the red carbon color and that it came with carbon wheels. I would have gone with the s-works build but for the price and the component spec I didn’t find it worth it. So after I bought the bike I literally changed everything besides the hoops I just laced them on to some I9 hydras. So I guess my first complaint would be the specs on all the builds they had. My second would be how big the bike is as well but that’s also one of things I love about this bike. But I gotta say, that’s it for me I bought this thing to go big and that’s what it does and I have a blast doing it. I did end up putting on the new 38 with 180 travel and the push elevensix and the thing feels like a dream I’ve never felt a bike feel this good

The Rear Mudguard Isn't Enough For Protecting The Shock. The Bike Feels Big. But I Really Love Everything Other Aspects Of This Bike. My Swat Box Is 110% Full So It Never Makes Noise. Hey Nick, I've got the Elite model and I love it. The retail price was $5310 but it was on sale for 25% off so I ended up paying just under $4000. I haven't heard the rattle from the swat box but perhaps that's because I have a tube in there so maybe the tube is preventing the rattle you speak of. I had a Stumpjumper Expert prior and the Enduro seems to climb as well, if not better, with the added downhill luxury of 170 mil travel (which I haven't used all of yet, and probably never will). I am terrible at dialing in my suspension so I can't comment on that. I just don't know which way to adjust so I just ride it like it is. Still tons of fun! Can't wait to see your new one. Bob T

I have a 2019 Instinct BC carbon 90 and it came with the GX, i just got the 10-52 XO installed, a seriously noticeable improvement and dropped 1/2 pound. The shifting is so much smoother and the 52 VS the 50 does help especially at my age=65. You know the all the RM bikes had a price increase and the Altitude Rally with the 38 is about 9500.00 USD without carbon wheels, not cheap. I bought mine as a leftover and saved 2500.00 off list so i put the savings into carbon wheels, bars then the 10-52 when available and i got a great price on the groupset. You're right about the 370 hub and carbon wheels, stupid combination, mine came with 370 hub and alloy wheels so i sold as new takeoffs and got Mavic XA carbon with their new 40 tooth hub, only category 3 wheels not 4 but for my type of riding they are FINE after 1 year of use and the price was a steal, about 1/3 of ENVE. Most high end bikes are in short supply as i was thinking of the carbon 70 Altitude, need to pay full list when/if available

The Swat box on my Stumpy was rattling like yours. My fix has worked out really well. I had some road handlebar tape with adhesive backing. Super stoked on my Enduro expert, I agree with some of the components. I wish that it had aluminum rims and they put the money into the suspension, like the 2021 expert has done with the fox elite which is basically factory without the kashima. Swat box issue; put a water bottle in it. No rattling in my bike. Cons for me: specialized saddle (hard as a rock), bars, stem (switched to 32mm) grips and tires. Peeled them off instantly. Pros. Favourite bike for living in the sea to sky. Surprised the hell out of me on the climbs for being such a big bike and barely have to think going down gnarly steep tech terrain. I put a 2021 X2 factory rear shock this past fall and grip 2 damper upgrade in the fork and the bike feels 👌👌. Then decked it out with one up components. Going to switch the guts out of my rear 370 and put the 240 guts in it with the 54t, there’s a sweet KZbin vid on how to make the easy swap. Interested to see what direction your going with the new bike, cheers!

DPX2 probably didn’t feel good because the specialised enduro linkage is quite progressive. Paired with an air shock, it’ll create kinematic that ramps up really fast, reducing the amount of supple and soft stroke, hence making the bike feel chattery and a feeling that you can’t use the entire travel. Coil is much more suited for the kinematics on the Enduro.

As a specialized dealer this is the biggest piss off about specialized. What you mentioned the price and they cheapout on parts but charge a premium for a bike that is not as good as another brand. I had this conversation with my norco rep today and she was on agreement with me and my boss and I have had this agreement for a long time. I own a Stumpjumper comp alloy 27.5 with a fox dps rear shock and a fox float rhythm 34 front fork With Full nx eagle setup The next one up from that is the Stumpjumper evo with the fox dpx2 rear shock and a fox float rhythm 36 with full nx eagle setup The price between the 2 mine is $4000 the other one $5800 there is no way having a carbon frame and a rear shock and front shock that’s $200 more each then the dps rear shock and the fox 36 and no way it’s $1400 more for carbon. It’s insane and your saving 1.5lbs. 2021’s version of the evo has the same front suspension and rear shock. And full Shimano SLX which is absolutely trash. That’s what they put on my 2020 Stumpjumper st alloy. I sold my Stumpjumper st and recently and have a norco fluid fs 1 on the way. Next I’ll be probably getting rid of my Stumpjumper comp with sram upgraded to sram axs

Great video - a little late to the party here but as one commenter mentioned, I was able to get rid of the swat box rattle by simply packing it so full of stuff that it sealed nice and tight. And based on that feature alone this bike will be the first one I don’t sell after a year. Had a YT Capra before this one, it was poorly put together, and just had zero pop. And no bottle cage, which is a stupid gripe but is actually a dumb design (that they have since fixed). I ended up with the X-wing style 2019 Enduro Elite, and for the sale price was great value. Totally agree about the wheels also - the hubs suck but I’m too cheap to upgrade it. I think it’s more of a cosmetic complaint than a functional one. Everything else about the bike is a step up from the Capra (parts spec on the Capra was awesome but I hated the Float X2 rear shock - the lockout was unnoticeable). The bike pedals like a dream and is very confidence inspiring on anything I have taken it down thus far. Cheers

I still have it mostly stock, as that was my goal for it and I'm genuinely happy with it overall. Have done all kinds of riding on it including some XC stuff and it managed. Rear shock tune needs tweaking across Enduro line. I had to put a bit of work into Comp to get rear to feel right. Not to be overlooked on this bike rear linkage design sucks in debris and rocks and those don't come out without disassembly. The wrong rock will be the end of carbon too in that linkage catch spot... It is heavy as well, though not a big deal as pedals so well, but I think they have to tackle weight for next version my full carbon xl (wheels and cranks) comp 36 lbs...but never had a bike able to fly on Downhills like one of these, so I'll deal with quirks.

Hey Nic - not sure if you’ll see this.... Just wanted to share with you my experience about the swat door and give you a likely fix for that rattling issue. I have a 2019 stumpjumper and had exactly the same problem. Took me ages to work out what the problem was, but eventually took it back to the dealer. They made a warranty claim [specialized Australia are pretty good with this stuff] and after investigation specialized completely replaced the whole frame for me because of the poor fit! Turns out they actually knew about the issue, there were several batches of frames that were made with the hole in the downtube cut too large! I subsequently developed the same rattle again on the new frame, but now specialized have created a new door to fix the problem. You should be able to order one through your dealer.

The carbon roval wheels can have the dt ratchet upgrade, I did it and they're fantastic with a 54t. The alloy rovals can not. I agree the bike is huge, it can be cumbersome and frustrating on tight technical trails. But on anything fast and downhill it's an absolute beast. Pedals uphill faster than my 2016 enduro and goes down faster than the 2017 carbon demo it replaced. Next upgrade is definitely a dhx2 or x2.. Can't decide

Really excellent review - answered a lot of the questions that I had about the Enduro. I also thought that the bike felt really 'big' unless you were going very quickly. Ended up ordering the new Pivot Mach 6 instead

I have had both a Stumpy and a Diverge and have never had a rattle issue with either swat box despite harsh sustain washboards in fast fire road descents and plowing through chunky rock gardens. Sucks it was an issue on yours. :(

We talked awhile ago at old buck about your YTs and S-Works. It's funny you finally decided to put the pros and cons into a video form. I was never happy with my dpx air shock on my Scott, so I upgraded to the DHX2 as well. The difference in feel is night and day.

You should specify that you just have the S-Works frame and that the actual S-Works build comes with better specs than the one you got which I believe was the expert..? That sucks about your swat....I have had zero issues with mine..no rattling or noise.. I wonder how you would have felt on a size smaller...?

I got 2019 version. I love it. I think it is a much better bike for me and the way I ride. I don’t smash Down black diamonds at mock chicken. I pick my way through as fast as I can go. It is extremely agile and smashes rock gardens pretty good. My buddy I ride with who rides at pro level would be better served with 2020 bike.

Nick May I suggest a process 153 27.5? They did update them and make them a little slacker a little longer and the chainstays a little longer but 2020s back all have more conservative head tube angles and average reaches and short short 425mm chainstays

I would think the bigger longer slacker trend would be pretty annoying on the north shore, given how tight and twisty a lot of tech trails seem on video. Hard to really tell with the gopro effect, though.

Mmm. Standing back and looking at it, it's a sexy bike. Can't argue that. Caught myself checking the bike out (on the trails) in the past. But I've dug deep on the laptop for the next bike, and Specialized will remain eternally just outside of my radar. And price is the reason... or rather, price/spec is the reason. I would drop $8000 on a bike if some of the big features are there. And by that, I mean features that are not easy fixes if they're poor (cheap). Like the wheel set. Not an easy fix. And the Performance suspension... rather than the Performance Elite... Further, Carbon isn't a selling feature for me... I'd rather spend the extra money to get the better drive train... or the better hubs. I'd rather have that free-stroke adjust and a 180 dropper. I'll take a drive train that isn't bastardized with a cheaper shifter and a heavier cassette. Give me more points of engagement and a Charger 2.1, thank you.

The suspension is something that I feel like a bike shouldn't compromise on. I'd rather ride worse wheels and a worse transmission than worse suspension. I hate Fox's performance GRIP damper forks, they're actually kind of awful.

I spent days trying to figure out a rattle on my dh bike, took the entire bike apart and checked every pivot bearing, completely tore apart the drivetrain, ended up being the brake pads. Apparently those little four legged “springs” in Sram calipers tend to wear out and no longer hold the pads tight, definitely an annoyance, and a huge waste of time. Been considering making the transition to magura or shimano.

How tall are you to be on an S4? Unrelated, a lot of the cons were resolved in 2021. I have the Enduro Expert 2021. Fork is a 38 with Grip 2. Shock is an X2 Float. 220 mm front rotor. Hubs seems good since I seem to gain speed faster than the people I ride with (I also love that it’s quiet) but I don’t know if they changed anything. I don’t have a lot of comparisons though. They did go back to aluminum rims but I welcome that trade off for the better suspensions and bigger rotors. I’m 188cm and I went for an S5. I was worried it would be too big but it’s just so stable and it makes the climbing really efficient. I got used to the size pretty quickly. I just hate doing Good Sir Martin switchbacks with it.
