I had my yearly checkup in June. It went as it typically does until we got to the blood work. My doctor was telling me the blood work she was ordering and she had not mentioned vitamin D. I asked her why we were not checking my vitamin D levels and she said they don't. If they checked it at some point previously (prior years) and the patient was deficient they would have been told to take it and if they took it their numbers would be better, if they didn't it would not. No need to check it. I said 'Isn't there a relationship between a person's vitamin D levels and how bad COVID-19 does you?' She said yes. So during a pandemic that has killed a number of people why wouldn't doctors as a practice check for a deficiency in their patients that could potentially save them if they get COVID-19? That does not make sense to me. This pandemic has opened my eyes about the healthcare industry.

Hello, I agree there may be some benefit from screening more people for vitamin d deficiency, however I'm not a doctor she don't pretend to be one. If you have no signs or symptoms of vitamin d deficiency, why would you expect your Dr to check? Similarly, in this video it's suggested vitamin K2 plays a potentially major role in cardiovascular diseases, yet I don't hear you calling for everyone to be screened for vitamin K2 deficiencies despite heart disease being a leading cause of death in the United States. I could go on and on like this. It's just not realistic to screen everyone for everything, especially if there is no indication in the patient to do so. Also, adding more tests = more cost and then everyone would be crying that doctors are just ordering inappropriate tests so they can benefit financially. See? There are many perspectives to issues, we just need to explore them a little. And I'm by no means saying you're wrong or that all Doctors are good at their job. It's just a bit more complex than you may realize

What I've learnt is that Vitamin K2 helps removes calcium in the soft tissues and puts it into the bones. While you are taking vitamin D your calcium absorption is increased by 20x so making sure that you reduce your calcium (dairy) intake, at the same time make sure that you are taking 100mcg of K2 per 10,000iu of Vitamin D, drink 2 litres of water a day to reduce the formation of kidney stones and take Vitamin D with a Fat, either a fatty meal or I take it with a high strength Omega 3 and fish oil tablet as Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and is absorbed better with healthy fats.

10000 is big amount. If you haven't problems as cancer this amount it not needed. If you have tested your blood serum bigger amounts of 5000 are not needed but resolving absorption problem....fish oil or animal fat is needed for dissolution and absorption and if there is gut problem lgg probiotic will solve this. In one year on 5000 iu you can gain 100+ of d3 in the blood serum from the base amount. There are different pathways for vit D from food and from sun. From food it is not absorbed in the fat tissue as is with from sun. If there are patology k2 for 4-5000 of D3 should be 300 basically because extra calcium in the blood from d3.100 is just maintenance dosage for 1000 d3.

I couldn't believe it as I had been taking a supplement of 500 every second day for years as living in Scotland we don't get a lot of sun. A very important topic came up here. Probably far more important for people to understand than Vitamin D. The notion that Saturated fat/ cholesterol causes heart/arterial disease has lead to catastrophic decline in human health. We have been told to reduce sat fat and red meat in the diet, and replace it with processed grains and industrial fats refined from otherwise inedible seeds, soybeans and such. The result is a diet low in protein, high in processed carbohydrate, and sky high in omega 6 fatty acids. Those guidelines havent worked out well. There is you causation for diabetes, heart disease, obesity, weak immune systems, many cancers, and more. Eat whole foods people. I didnt say whole grains did I? No, and I didnt say go plant based either. That is all highly profitable crap. Optimal for me is something like Beef butter, eggs,

I was a chiropractor in California and studied nutrition. As far back as 2000 we were seeing vitamin D deficiency in our patients. I moved to Western North Carolina and found a functional nutritionist who had me get a blood test and included a test for vitamin D levels. I was shocked to find I was very low in D even though I spend a lot of my time outside. I take 5,000 IU’s a day in liquid form. I was very glad that I already was taking D when COVID hit. For all the symptoms you listed for D deficiency the fact it isn’t automatically checked for still amazes me. I wonder how much of the depression and bone loss seen in older adults are from long standing vitamin D deficiency. I love your videos. Also for years I studied nutrition with a doctor that came from the UK to California to lecture on the subject.

@@johnbennett6637 oh yes, and taken with strawberries and cream very good for keto. I snack on strawberries, dipped in dark chocolate and then whipped cream instead of chips in front of telly . Not every day, I hasten to add! Lol. But I still take my D3, K2 and magnesium.

Kim chi is wonderful with many different types from sweet and tangy to spicy. I highly recommend trying it as it is less sour than sauerkraut. It is made from Napa cabbage and Korean radishes along with other vegetables. Lemongrass is sometimes added along with garlic, spring onions and ginger. Get to know Kim Chi!!!!!!

Your comment about the difficulty of finding high quality evidence for dietary advice is so true. As a dental student in the 1960s and ever since I have always been very suspicious of a lot of dietary advice because of the impossibility of running long term RCTs. Interestingly one of the few was the completely unethical Vipeholm studies that proved that refined sugars cause Dental Decay.

All my family took K2, zinc, vitamine D . During Covid, religiously . Never got covid even my 92 year old mom. Keep your vitamine intake up. And always , do it with caution, too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. Too many vitamins can also be a detrement.

As someone with MS I'm so annoyed there isnt any answer to this question! I dont understand why theres a problem researching this! I did a personal blood test last month after taking 4000UI for over a yr and my level was just 90 so I'm not sure if I should take more! My nurse 'poo pooed' my queries 🤦♀️ thanks DrJ for highlighting this!

Ive watched this again a year later and the advice is still as good as it was then. In the UK, the pharmacists sell low doses at brand mega prices. It's difficult to get K2 and there is virtuously no advice on the bottles of pills as to the daily dose. These vitamins should be available in 250 packs at half the price they now charge. At the start of the pandemic, English men identified as having poor immunity were free issued packs of 200 VD3 pills, but then all went quiet. As of November 2022 there are no mentions anywhere of Covid except in hospitals and health centres where masks are still requested. I dont, and when challenged I use the excuse that trying to stop covid with cheap masks is like trying to stop gnats flying from one end to the other of a tennis court with the net.
