My problem with the new packaging is that it is not that good for this type of product. You normally use it for things like glass, dishes, headphones, etc., to avoid damaging a different density. You can ask the action figure collectors( Marvel, DC, Transformers, etc.) how much they hate this because the figure arrives with scratch paint or has to be refunded because they didn't know the figure was damaged until they opened it.
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
Yeah you pretty much HAVE to open the figure right away so that you can be sure it's safe. Many times I'll have figures sitting around in boxes because I like to make haul videos and usually that's fine because I can see the figures are fine through the windows. This now gets in the way of the filming process for me, which is a very specific issue but still

I just wish the nendoroids would be as cheap as this box looks like. What hurts the most for me is not even the change, but that they did this with nendoroids we pre-ordered a long time ago, and we had no idea this would happen with them. I'm pretty disappointed, but at least I can use this as a reason to finally cut back with my nendoroid orders. Well, I will see it soon in person with the Kurisu 2.0

Removing the plastics/blister of the packaging makes the entire structure very fragile. To me, the blistering plastics is the "bone" for the box of nendos. I spoke from concern because in the past Ive had figures delivered in damaged shipping box and dented package box while the blister is what saved my figure from any further damage then it already had.
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
I got a figure of Daiwa Scarlet directly from GSC like a year ago and the shipping box was in horrid condition. Looked like it was ran over or something. Of course the figures box also took a brutal beating but surprisingly the figure's only damage was that one of her gold buttons popped out. No way she woulda survived in a cardboard box instead. Blisters are just infinitely better and I hate that they're taking them away

I think they should have at least done the Pop Up Parade Line first they use WAY more plastic then the Nendos the whole box is plastic and they are bigger too! They should have tested it out with that line see if there no issues with damages during shipping and customer responses before they go for Nendos. And their quality makes sense for it to be more to a prize figure packaging. Reducing waste and plastic I'm all good for but I also think they should experiment paper pulp molds to add more structure at least for overseas shipments
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
Honestly that's a good point. Why DO they make those boxes out of mostly plastic if they are trying to cut back? In fact the only time I DON'T see plastic boxes for Pop Ups is when its an L or Special Version which is equally confusing to me.
@MrCat-zz5eo2 ай бұрын
Popup Parades have been nothing but a bane that prevents great sculpts and characters from being better articulated. Unfortunately they're profitable enough as is so I'm not surprised GSC won't let their prized pay-to-win prize figurines be all scratched.

This box is very..."Prize figure coded" if that makes sense. This is coming from someone who *mainly collects prize figures,* too. I have a pretty decent collection, and all but my one scale and one pop up parade, and the nendos of course, are all prize figures. And I *love* prize figures, don't get me wrong! But the lack of the window and use of cardboard inside gives this a very "prize figure" feel to it...Except prize figures also have cardboard pieces that keep the figures from being right up against the box usually, so they won't get damaged of something damages the box...It makes me worried for the Jaden nendo I have on preorder...I was just worried about Amazon canceling the preorder because they didn't get enough(something I've heard of amazon JP doing, but idk if amazon US does it too) and you know, worried about him being ugly since the prototype is a little...Weird looking...But not knowing if he'll get here *safe* is gonna be a new worry...

I dont have great luck with Amazon Japan but I will say considering the downgraded protection of the new box I would have assumed GSC would use more packing materials for the shipping box. Ok, so everything is secure before opening and assembling the Nendo, but not so much when you need to put everything back. You might have to tape the spare parts plastic bag in order to not make things fly inside the box... Same for spare faceplates; feel tedious to put them back secured. Well, I guess GSC is clearly sending a message here with this new box: you really have to commit to display your nendo once you open the box. No turning back, or you're in for some trouble. Also, I am not fond of the new base; I do mot care about the center holes being gone (I've never used them), but the height will be a problem for a collection. In my case, some of my Umamusume girls will stand lower than the oldest ones, which will not look that good when displayed together.
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
Tape is useful yeah. the little bag for the base was taped but the accessories I had to cut up so I rolled it up and stuck in the other little bag for the time being. Thinking about it, yeah the height difference is probably gonna bug me. Wasn't on my mind when making this video tho

This is my first time watching you but I was very impressed with your professional delivery, your reasonable assessment of the product and your educational approach to the subject. Some people just rant but you provided useful information. I, too, have a Taiga 2.0 on order and was concerned about the new packaging but you helped to alleviate some of those concerns. Like you said, it’s when something gets damaged that we’ll have cause to complain but as long as the Nendo arrives safely then the cost-cutting, environmentally sustainable packaging is probably the way to go. The reduction of accessories is harder to deal with but I don’t know all of the economic pressures they’re facing.

It's not that Goodsmile is in some kind of financial crisis that's why they're doing these kind of cost cutting stuff with their products, especially Nendos, while still putting up the prices. Goodsmile CEO Takanori Aki is currently on a wild venture with his own startup Animation studio. Knowing how much capital you'll need to run that kind of business, he needs to milk GSC products to make his animation studio running. In times were Animation Studios are shutting down in Japan, or getting sold to some other companies, I don't know how far Aki-san would go, coz while milking his cash cow GSC products to fund his animation studio, it's definitely hurting and affecting how GSC products are being delivered for the customers' satisfaction.....

I forgot to point out that this style of Nendoroid stand is not new. I have many Hololive Nendoroids with long hair come with stands that bend the same way. The base is definitely different though. I do use the middle hole for some poses to save space. Their absence will be missed. Not including the special stand unless you order directly from GSC does feel like a slap in the face, especially given how nice it looks and how well it fits the theme of the show. The more I think about it, the more I believe this is a death-by-a- thousand-cuts scenario. It may not be any one change that upsets collectors like me, but the summation of all changes that would collectively increases annoyances to a not-insignificant portion of the community.

The newer thin bases just seem like they'll quickly become a nightmare, a lot of nendoroids are already too top-heavy to balance well and even as an easel-stand lover I always opt for the square base for those ones to prevent toppling and damage. As someone that owns 200+ nendoroids, this change on top of the packaging changes, increasingly less accessories, poorer quality (I've received several defective/significant paint defects recently), STILL no combined shipping for preorders on the GSCUS online store, and the prices not coming down to match the reduced packaging it's very upsetting, and I've been finding myself preordering and ordering less and less as it's all having a cumulative effect on my enjoyment of the hobby. 💔

I do have worries about being scammed when buying second hand but I’m not sure if anything is going to really change with that. A lot of the ways people could scam someone could still happen in the older boxes. I’m not too happy about the new cardboard blister. It just needs some more protection than what it currently has. Someone else mentioned if their Hokusai Nendoroid had come in that box things would been damaged and they’re right. I also have the Hokusai Nendoroid and I don’t want to think about what could have happened if she’d come in that. Putting them back in the box also looks like a pain in the ass. I assume you mean the Taiga art? That was a bonus shikishi board that was given out when you preordered her Wedding dress figure a few years back. One of my favorite things in the collection for sure. The secret though is I have alot more taiga figures on another shelf off camera lol. Too many to fit on one shelf rip

Careful with the nose if you store the alternative face plates inside the box. I've seen other reviewer showing it really close to touch the inside of the box. The matte finish might turned glossy over time by the friction.

Zucco, can you tell if shipping was at least a little cheaper considering the box size reduction? I feel like this might be the single only positive aspect of all this for the consumer, but if shipping isn't generally cheaper than it's overwhelmingly disappointing. Thank! :)
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
In this specific instance the shipping was the same because I bought her from the global store which is always a flat rate(18 dollars which is terrible for a nendoroid). I only bought it from them though because of the exclusive base that wasn't on the US store, but apparently they added that base to the US store later so I feel pretty dumb lol. I would assume if you bought from a store that calculates exact shipping the price would be a little cheaper due to size and weight though

@Wocka852 ай бұрын
@ZuccoFigures If it was just sans the middle hole, it'd be fine, but it looks 2/3 cm thiner, so they won't be even with older ones. Terrible for displaying nendos
@-Panna-2 ай бұрын
This looks... yeah... cheap, honestly. Part of the appeal of Nendoroids was being able to keep them in the boxes if you preferred, to display them that way and keep them in mint condition. I personally take them out to display them, but I completely understand wanting to keep them pristine while still being able to see the figure itself. They are also way too flimsily packaged like this; just looking at the way those faceplates are stored makes me anxious. Seems way too easy now for pieces to become lost after opening those little plastic bags they're in , too (which, also... kind of defeats the purpose of using less plastic, in some way?). I feel like you'll essentially have to use your own zip-up bags to keep them safe when storing them. Another issue others have pointed out that I also agree with is how easy it's now goong to be for resellers to essentially scam people. They could so easily ship it to people with the figure completely missing, pieces missing, and even a completely different figure entirely. Overall, I really do not care for this change at all.
@SemekiIzuio2 ай бұрын
Pizza box lol😂 Youd think they reduce the cost of the figure just as they reduced the cost of the packaging. Sad they ruined the experience of opening up a figure that doesn't feel like a freaking crane prize. I think they going to start to sell storage containers, like push more for the mini ones or make a new design to store the nendo not just the faces and accessories. Regardless, I will not be buying Nendo line figures from here on. The only PO I have is Blade and thats it. If March new fit comes out I will get her just for the sake of having the HSR consistency in figures because I already own Dan Heng. But Ill continue to put my money towards S.H. Figuarts and scales instead
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
Yeah the unboxing was pretty unceremonious lol. Like if I wasn't in "filming mode" I would have likely just quickly got Taiga out and push the box to the side never to think about it again lol
@whyr1s2 ай бұрын
Tbh I can't really be happy about the Nendroids as of late... Its pretty obvious they're cutting costs for blister packaging and such because they're trying to save money while charging the consumer more while they receive less. While the smaller box is one nice thing to come out of the new packaging, for people who preordered figures part of a group such as hololive are now going to have mismatched boxes and styling. The bigger point is that the new boxes only really benefit you if you live in japan. Overseas, boxes has a higher chance of the figure getting damage because cardboard cannot protect smaller pieces or paint chipping. This is a huge issue for nendorids coming from any gacha game, or with more intricate accessories being damaged during the shipping process. realistically I'm most likely not going to be purchasing any newer nendroids unless its an absolute favorite as I don't really support GoodSmile's practices as of late. It feels like nendroids are slowly becoming prize figure quality but demanding a premium because of the brand name.
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
If Nendoroids were as good as they were a few years ago then I'd probably not mind the change as much but considering the decline in the line and now the boxes are also worse it feels very easy for me to move on unless they announce something that I simply can't refuse
@whyr1s2 ай бұрын
@ZuccoFigures If i really wanted to buy a nendroid from goodsmile, I'd probly do it through amiami since their packaging is alot safer for me (as well as having a good dhl option). It would also be the case for buying used nendroids.
@EveRosell2 ай бұрын
That just screams cutting costs. They simply cheapened on manufacturing. Those plastic packages for separate parts are a thing in prize figures, same with no window boxes. But prize figures go for 1,500-3,000 yen when nendos now go for 6,500-8,500 yen. GSC becomes more and more the company to avoid...
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
I never really understood the pricing for Nendos once they went over 4000 yen
@PenguinMasterKnight2 ай бұрын
I just can't like the new packaging, no window means you don't know if it's busted during shipping without opening it, so say some scummy employee could be like "Nah, it's open thus YOU damaged it, tough luck" if you try to return it or something, there's knowing if something is a knock off or not, the inside seems way too insecure in turns of trying to keep everything protected, and for me, if I HAD to sell one of my Nendoroids for any reason, I like being able to put everything back in it's designated spot quite easily, this new method is going to make that much more difficult, especially when it's in those stupid baggies you can't open without just tearing it up. This is a step way too back and seems that's it's done more just to skimp out on costs and cut corners to save money. As for Taiga herself, while I love the OG Tsundere 3, I'd need to know if Shana and Louise will gets Nendo's in the future before I get her, since I already got a Figure of Taiga to go alongside Figma Shana and this weird movable figure of Louise I got all sitting up on my shelf.

I am a "most of my figures stay in the box" collector. At least with the old way, I could actually look at the nendos I've purchased. While I understand why they've changed, I think they could have done better. This feels less premium. This makes it feel cheaper than a Funko Pop.

@rdxzero2 ай бұрын
I don't buy the eco friendly angle. If I had to guess, the majority of people keep their boxes, so the packaging doesn't go into the trash. But now in lieu of plastic, they've added non-recyclable foam and non-recyclable plastic bags to hold the pieces. For material costs, it's negligible to design and produce the plastic packaging because it's just vacuum formed, which is dirt cheap. It's just as expensive to spend more effort into designing cardboard-only packaging that PROPERLY protects the nendoroid, and I can clearly see it's not as well protected as the plastic packaging. With all that being said, my conclusion is just shitty cost cutting. You will definitely sell more product if the buyer can see the nendoroid through the plastic window, but now you can't. Absolutely ridiculous.
@rockblockstudio2 ай бұрын
RIP buying secondhand now. Doing this to the Nendoroid line first still boggles my mind. PUP uses 100% more plastic for it's box and yet here they are, drastically changing an older line instead. Part of me doesn't even wanna buy any new nendos now. I truly hope they revert this change, but GSC is a Japanese company and they're stubborn. So many problems are going to come from this
@mujitsukyo2 ай бұрын
Is it actually Styrofoam? If so that's kinda annoying cuz that's not recyclable. Which kinda defeats the purpose. I'm also annoyed by the bag of parts like a prize figure. If the price comes down maybe it'd be worth it but last I checked it hasn't :/
@ZuccoFigures2 ай бұрын
It's some sort of foam bag but I probably should have clarified I didn't know the exact material
@ashton37292 ай бұрын
Blister packaging is used in many other figure lines because it works! The argument they are trying to make about the environment has no leg to stand on. PUP boxes are ALL plastic and yet they see no problem? This very sudden change is obviously for financial reasons. And they really should have announced this earlier! I know they didn't want to deter people from pre-ordering, but that is just such a shady move.

just NO. first off, the previous nendo boxes before that one were PERFECT! they were compact and you could easily store them and even display them without opening it. now its a clutter nightmare, you have a box that will wear and tear after opening and closing it, and it houses a lot of cardboard boxes within it with a bunch of other things that are a pain to put back in again...as if they were made to be thrown away after. this is probably the most backwards thinking thing i have ever seen from GSC.
