Mike M I just can’t seem to understand why would you call this city a ghetto. Either way, it saddens me how offensive and classist that comment of yours was. Moreover, as Spainspeaks says, it is such a liveable city, and so that is why I fail to comprehend why would you describe it like that. Please, DO come back to Vitoria to get to know the city better.

Me habría gustado estaras días. Pero no queda ahí la cosa. Visité el resto de país Vasco. Y ojo.

A good video. When we visited Vitoria we too were impressed with the open spaces, the great public transportation, and the green spaces. In fact I decided to go just because it was chosen as the European Green Capital in 2012. Since we were driving we stayed outside in Murgia and drove in for the day. We left our car in a free parking area at the entrance and took the tram into the city. Very practical. Vitoria seemed very wealthy with a high standard of living. Unemployment is relatively low since there are a lot of manufacturing companies that have operations there, including Mercedes-Benz, Michelin, and Gamesa, the big manufacturer of wind turbines. The city has been ranked second in standard of living among all cities in Spain, and first as to green areas and cultural places per capita. The only negative, as you mentioned, is the cold winter, with the average high of 9 Celsius and low of 1 Celsius. But, you can take consolation in that Burgos, Ávila, Teruel, Valladolid, and Sória are colder.

For 25 years Spain and Portugal remain at the very top of my list for my retirement destination , therefore I’ve viewed myriad vlogs over the past couple of years , for both countries . I regard “Spain Speaks” as the most useful to me and rarely watch others . Stewart puts cities on my radar, that I was not previously aware . Spain Speaks gives me a brief, concise and informative view’s that help me prioritize which cities to visit . This particular vlog is a good example. I have never before heard of Vitoria Gadeiz , now it is a Must Visit . Cheers !

Hi, I'm from Venezuela, but I've lived in Vitoria for 7 years. I want to provide times when you can come to Vitoria. If you want to see Vitoria at its best, when there is more activity in the city, when wonderful and free concerts are held, when there are cultural activities and workshops, and among many other things. To see this, you have to come between August 3 and 10, which is when Vitoria Gasteiz's parties are. For example, this year he played a wonderful DJ in the plaza de los fueros, right in the center of Vitoria. On the other hand if you want to have a quieter holiday, it is best to come from August 11. It's when the holidays are over and people leave on vacation and the city is literally empty. The bad side is that some establishments close and some of your interest may not be open. And the ideal combination would be to come and see the two stages. See Vitoria vibrant and beautiful and then see how calm and natural it can be. I hope you serve the advice and understand what I said as I use the Google translator hehe. Greetings and beautiful video.

Vitoria, for me, is the unsung gem of the Spanish Basque region. Bilbao has the urban grit and steel (but also a small and delightful Casco Viejo), San Sebastián has the curvaceous lines of the beachfront, but for me, a vastly overrated rest-of-town (essentially one small plaza - Consti - and a couple of streets is worth your time), with most of it being an anonymous, nondescript, apartment-blocky mess. Pamplona (is it *really* Basque?) is lovely, with an extensive and beautiful Casco Viejo cancelling out the drab blight of so many a Spanish city - its bathetic suburbs. But Vitoria. The name alone woos. The city itself backs up the titular promise with a glorious undulating old centre with two of the best plazas in all Spain and web of narrow streets worth a day’s rambling of anyone’s time.

You mentioned that it rained a lot. It does if you are comparing Vitoria to Madrid. According to data from 1981 to 2010 the yearly average rainfall in Vitoria was 742 mm while Madrid was 423 mm. But then Madrid ha almost desert-like conditions. We always think that Dublin, Ireland is rainy but in a year it only gets 754 mm, about the same as Vitoria. If you don't like rain, then avoid Santiago de Compostela where in a year you can get 1,787 mm. On the other extreme is Almeria with around 200 mm per year, the driest city in Europe.

I have been in love with this city since visiting a friend there a couple of years ago. La Kutxi, the streets with a lot of bars and restaurant in the city center, has a great vibe and people are really friendly. On the downside my friend always complain about the weather in winter as it can rain for weeks and apparently the job market is not really good. Met this guy on a bus from Bilbao who was an engineer and he told me that a lot of graduates there can t find a job or they have to work for shitty salaries like 800 Euros a month. Can any local comment on the job situation in vitoria?
@oleksandrshvets13335 жыл бұрын
Hi. I'm not a Spaniard but currently live here. I'm also engineer but it's absolutely doesn't matter here. If you want to live you have to work where you'll be able to find a job. I worked 1 year at one factory on a lowest position and earned 1200 euro and at the same time paid 700 euro for a rent. In my opinion here are few reasons of this: huge unemployment and not the best mentality of the local population, which wants the employee to do everything but for little money. In this regard, I 100% sure that this is not an immigrant country.
@mannyme29865 жыл бұрын
@@oleksandrshvets1333 Thanks for your opinion. 1200 Euros is not a dream wage but you can definetely live on it without going hungry. Unfuourtunately rents in Spain have gone through the roof but sharing a place or renting just a room could keep the expenses down. Cost of living in Spain i.e. food, transportation, bars etc.. is quite reasonable. Take care
@traveladventure10134 жыл бұрын
In Vitoria and in the Basque Country in general there is less unemployment and the salaries are much better comparing to other parts of Spain. Quite good work market. Por lo visto tú no has pasado este verano en Vitoria, se puede decir que nos hemos achicharrado, con 40 y pico grados muchos días, y eso lo puede decir quién haya visitado la ciudad

Impressed by the lack of graffiti. Demonstrates a real pride in their city by the residents.

I love Spanish cities and this one is no exception. It's a lovely place but I prefer Bilbao. It's closer to the coast, as you say, and it has greater connectivity in terms of public transport. Big fan of Vitoria all the same. Good video

Vitoria is one hour from Bilbao, San Sebastian and Pamplona. By bus is 1 hr from the sea, Zarautz. Has lakes and is in the same county as the Rioja wine area. Bilbao is a bit far from Pamplona, and the connection with Madrid and Barcelona is worse as well.

Can someone confirm the greeting he says in Spanish at the 9:25 mark? (How's things?) - Doesn't sound like Que tal or anything else I would know.
