Honestly, I had the polar opposite take on this album. Thanks for having balls enough to say what ya think! All the discussion and opinion just adds to the intrigue of the music! We most definitely disagree about this record, but the thoughts and the discussion are fantastic! I'm having a blast, man!

Vitriol is form over function the band, no one asked for a band that worshipped early 2000s diminished chord death, but hey their guitar collection is worth thousands!

I think Vitriol is an excellent band. Better than 95% of modern death metal acts. My only gripe with the new song is the rhythm guitar is too buried in the mix. It surfaces with repeated listenings, though.

Can you describe why?
@vladtepes9614
@vladtepes9614 8 ай бұрын
@@scaleitback1055 Certainly. The whole band is tight as hell and for the most part, I love the riffs and songwriting. Imo the e.p. "Pain Will Define Their Death" has the best production in their catalogue. Not sure why they went in a more polished and "wall of noise" direction with their full lengths, but it is what is. Now, if you're looking for a detailed reason based in musical theory or the perspective of a fellow musician, I can't help you. I just know what I like when I hear it.

It's not suppossed to be easy listening. This type of Death Metal, you either like and get or you don't and maybe get it, but probably not. They serve a very niche fanbase, I'm not surprised why it's to intimidating and abrassive for a lot of people. I love this sort of music though.

It’s true- I don’t get it. But I grew up in a time when personality traits weren’t diagnosed as disorders and am in the last generation not raised on Ritalin, so the constant buzz of static stimulus masquerading as substance feels vacuous to me.

He's probably going to say they have some cool riffs in the first half of their career but don't know how to write a song. I agree (as someone who owes his love of Metal to this band) that their compositions are incredibly disjointed. They do have a unique magic to them that means I can forgive a lot though, especially on their first and second albums.

@@jacobgordon4325 Honestly, 'Morningrise' is one of my favourite albums. It's basically untouchable in my opinion, with genius counterpoint harmonies* and a guitar tone to die for. The schizophrenic approach to composition works in a kind of stream-of-consciousness way somehow. Which Opeth albums do you like? * 0:55 into 'The Night and the Silent Water' is a great example of this.

I actually like everything through Ghost Reveries aside from Deliverance, although even when I was young and not analytical I could tell the songwriting was very poor- much like how I felt about Death. They got a lot of VITRIOL by some as being out to destroy metal by having just enough of it to pull people in and then steering them away from what metal really is, but I don’t think they actually cared enough about the genre to have that end goal. I think they were just fruitcakes with bad arrangement sensibilities but good ears for melody, pushed to 70s prog worship when they thought they had grown out of metal- and THAT is their biggest offense.

I think that this album is brilliant,extremely purposeful and artistic. It is not for everyone. I can discern everything that they are doing. It is not an easy listen, but it is absolutely unique. I will be reviewing this album and am surprised by your review, and I disagree with you.
