es simplemente maravillosa la proyeccion de su vos. a veces roza los colores del gran maestro (pavarotti), pero como un amante de la opera le critico una sola cosa, en esta area del maestro donizetti cantada una y otra vez por tantos grandes, se equivoco y canto cualquier cosa en la segunda parte. eso desluce todo lo maravillosamente dulce que puede sonar.

I saw his Boheme debut @ the Met this past season. He may be handsome and over-hyped(that's show biz) but he more than lived up to expectations. A beautiful lyric and surprisingly big voice with 2 BEAUTIFUL unforced hi-C's and passionately involved (though slightly hyper, ala Villazon), acting. I'm looking forward to his return to the Met. Should have a great career.

Not sure about rock, but he is a rising star in opera. Has is singing leading roles in top opera theaters. He was singing the duke in Italian tv movie Rigoletto filmed on location in Mantua which was shown on PBS earlier this year. This is one of my favorite arias, I auditioned with this at Seattle Opera and am now contracted with them for the next 2 yrs so yes I definitely noticed that he missed that phrase, not sure if I like him, he strains a lot, might be because its early but he doesn't seem to have that great of a voice.

One of the most moving and beautiful versions I have ever heard, but I agree with writer Antoinette Thompson - this needs to be reposted with the ending intact. It ruined the presentation with the ending missing. Other than that, heavenly!

Not quite. There's Joseph Calleja, Piotr Becsala, Juan Diego Florez, and Lawrence Brownlee, who are far above him in experience and technique. But he has a true Italianate leggero sound, and that's nothing too shabby.

@bubbaq Probably cut to fit into the time allotted for the segment. I noticed him look at the accompanist to be sure he was with him on the change. I think alot of the "strain" is his attempt at drama, which is my only dislike. Of course, he really can't help the over dramatization after studying w/ Domingo! I like his voice, he sings with loads of emotion! But, (oh come on, don't tell me you didn't sense a "but" coming, ha!) I have a problem with his breath control; the audible breaths are distracting! Perhaps he picked up the habit during his time in "crossover".

I agree about Calleja - Florez's version is indeed sensitive; could be likened to Jose Carreras in his prime but doesn't have the passion of Grigolo. Beczala is ordinary and Brownlee is indeed different!

Hasta cuando estos excepticos, pretenciocos e insensibles, que sólo sacan cuenta de cuántas notas se hacen o se dejan de hacer y se pierden de lo esencial: la calidad vocal y la pasión musical, que no es ni más ni menos por efecto del bendito micrófono.
