What has happened to him? Why does no one talk about it? How does the world’s greatest violinist come play like this?

@@celloguy Despite not being a sport, violin playing is pretty physically demanding. You can't maintain a high level of playing for a long time, unless your body is kept in good shape. Perlman also had a pretty energetic play style, so it's natural that his skill would decline with age. It's also safe to assume that Perlman doesn't practise as much as he used to when he was younger. However, I will say that I don't think he declined early. Perlman debuted in his twenties in the mid 60s, and during the 70s and 80s, he was arguably the top violinist in the world. That's two decades of performing more than a hundred concerts every year, and he only started to decline significantly during the 90s, at which point he was almost 50 years old, which is older than most of the top violinists of today. Perlman is inarguably one of the best violinists of all time, but he is from a different era. Today, people listen to him, not because he plays as well as he did 40 years ago, but because he is a living legend in the world of classical music. Edit: I also just rememberd that Perlman had to have a surgery on his shoulder because of an injury in the latter part of his career. Another reason for his decline in the 90s, aside from age, is probably that he started focusing more on teaching and conducting.

Hi, I don't know Itzhak Perlman personally. However, based on the video, it seems that he could be having a neurological syndrome called Parkinson's, which is a terrible disease. Inside of all the clinical signs that the patient suffers, one of the major ones is the shaking of the extremities of the body in a state of rest which could be deduced from the fragments of the video when he is not playing such as the minute 5:50. I want to be clear that I do not know him or his current health state, I am just doing an hypothesis based on the given information of the video & therefore I could be wrong. At the end of the day, the only thing that matters is that he is a great violinist & performer & therefore we must be grateful that he keeps inspiring new generations of young people who want to play this awesome instrument which is the violin.
