Many great artists lived that way, especially the musicians. They endure much suffering in their lives in order to convey emotions in abstract form. Artists eventually embrace their suffering because it is the source of their creation. Beethoven went nuts and deaf after an abusive childhood, Mozart was a gambler alcoholic in debt robbed of a playful childhood, Chopin was bipolar and emotional wreck, and JSB had botched baroque eye surgery that left him blind. Tis the journey of the artist.

This ensemble is a real class act. Period instruments, a perfectly balanced sound with a robust basso continuo. They breathe historic authenticity. But most of all they play so well. Most classical music listeners have heard these concerti played quite a lot, but they haven't heard it played like this. Winter is probably the most compelling of the concerti, and we are are unlikely to ever hear it played better than this live performance by Voices of Music.

Hey there, sorry to interject, i'm a newbie in classical music, and even if this interpretation give me the chills and the tears by his beauty i still prefer Mari Samuelsen's version...i'm i wrong somewhere? I don't understand all the technique behind the violin, it just trigger my soul that's why i love it.
@VoicesofMusic3 жыл бұрын
Mari's version is totally great, and in art whether it is music or painting one can go into a room and have a favorite painting or artists. There's a subtle factor here which is the baroque violin is really different from the modern violin, as they are separated by three hundred years of development, so in a way it;s like comparing a piano to an electric piano, they are both cool, but they require different techniques. And each performance reveals something interesting about the music. One of the differences is the bow. The baroque bow--and the player--shapes each phrase as an arc instead of sustaining the music lines all the way to the end. This creates a harmonic space for the other instruments in the orchestra to interact with the soloist so it is more of a music conversation than prepared remarks. This also allows for improvisation, which you see in baroque music and in Jazz, but not, typically, in a modern performance. So there are differences.

I've heard a lot of Vivaldi's Winter, but Mrs. Cynthia definitely tops the hat. The sparse opening is usually played with too much force, making the violin crunch a lot, but she managed to rope out such power without being too massive on the strings, which is amazing because the clarity and the strength of the music sounds just like the cold itself. It's amazing that she made all the harsh sounds of winter so effortless, while keeping emotions on the warm part of the music. And definitely I bow and commend the final movement where she lets all the emotions out, truly amazing, this is literally (and most probably) the hundred time I repeated this recording already. There’s an incredible atmosphere, and within it, artists who seem to have been placed there with the precise hand of a master painter. You can feel so clearly that they are not just playing the music, but truly living the emotions Vivaldi himself experienced. The intensity with which they embody these feelings reaches deep into their bones. As I listen, I can’t help but feel that same emotion, and for that, I want to offer my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to them. The Allegro non molto section really brings out the sharp, biting cold. And then, when they shift into the Largo and the pace slows down, it’s like a sudden change. As they pause and turn the page, it feels like being pulled out of the trance of winter, back into the warmth of reality.

Hoyoverse (and some other studios) uses classical music, opera, and traditional instruments from various countries and put a modern (or futuristic) twist to them for their character trailers (in this case, they used this piece in the Kafka trailer in HSR), cutscenes, battle themes, and boss fights. It makes them more enjoyable for the current generation and people who don't have the taste for these kind of music. It, *kinda* immortalizes these classical masterpieces and various traditional way of making music in a way I guess.

Classical IS MUSIC... pure music that takes over every part of your body. If you close you eyes and listen carefully you can hear EACH instrument at the same time. It truly is a full body experience for me. I grew up listening to classical and opera when everyone else was listening to mainstream tunes. The depth of life born from each classical note will stay with you forever and open your eyes, mind and soul to a whole new realm of reality. Keep it up !

A few days before I had turned 5. My parents woke me up out of a sound sleep that cold December evening and bundled me up in a few layers over my pajamas and took me outside for the first snow of the season which was only a few hours old. There, in our back yard on the first evening of winter 1964 was my somewhat eccentric uncle, a 2nd violin in a symphony orchestra holding his violin and he asked me "would you like to hear winter?" I could feel winter, it was cold. I could see winter, the snow was falling. I thought perhaps he meant the sound of the crunching of the snow under my feet. I shrugged my shoulders and so he shrugged his and began to play Winter. Within the first two minutes a crowd had gathered, our neighbors in a two yard radius. It's interesting how the falling of snow on a cold winter's night can magnify sounds. That was the first time I heard winter hearing Winter. Vivaldi was right. It sounds like winter. I can't hear this piece without flashing back to that distant winter evening nearly sixty years ago. Since then I have listened to this piece outdoors in cold weather on the first day of winter played by my uncle and by others.

Wow, what an experience! I wish I had such an eccentric uncle who had such appreciation for the nature that inspired such hearts as to create music that would transport you throughout time and evoke such memory.
