Amazingly , this song was turned down by Marty Robbins although he did feature it regularly in live shows. Another lapse by Marty was not recording his steel guitarist's (Bill Johnson) classic ballad 'A Wound Time Can't Erase.'

I am currently going through the writing credits of Marty Robbins' songs. Joe wrote a bunch of Marty's songs. Of course, Marty wrote a ton of the songs he recorded.

Oops, Cowboy Joe" done fergot some of the lyrics, right offen the bat. "He said, 'son, if you keep your hands clean, you won't hear the bloodhounds on your trail.'" Kinda important, as that line is recalled at the end of the song. Full circle, doncha know...
