I’m a nerd about yarn stuff so on the wool vs yarn thing: technically wool is a broader term for the fibre that comes off sheep and for things made from that. Yarn is twisted fibre that can be made from all kinds of fibres, both natural and artificial (most inexpensive yarn is acrylic). Still, I find that some people refer to all yarn as wool, so it’s confusing 😅 I wonder if different types of yarn would work the same or differently on hair.
@lucabeard532
@lucabeard532 2 жыл бұрын
Different types of yarn would retain heat differently. Plastic and wool are pretty hot, cotton is more breathable. I bet cotton yarn would let the hair dry a lot faster than acrylic yarn. I bet it would come out about the same at the end though.

Acrylic yarns such as Red Heart that she used is best that way the hair will not dread together. The yarn is light and is a cheap way to braid and play with color.

@anonymousfellow8879

Right?? I do not have the mental patience or hand stamina whatsoever (my hair’s a random 2b-3a depending on the day with zero wire to hold its curl and dense enough to take 2-4 hours to airdry…so I usually just wash it at night, sleep with a towel on my pillow, and either wear it as-is or toss it into a ponytail. Legit all I have the patience for, health-aside, especially since it needs to be washed daily. (Sure I push it to “3+ days” but that has more to do with laziness/pandemic + washing and detangling with conditioner can still cause me hand flareups. If I wanna leave the house still looking human…daily or every other day showers it is. Definitely a patience-killer.)

Cosmetologist twenty three years. I think if each section was split into four sections you would have had better luck and it would have dried quicker. But I see what you did when you wrapped. I think the point is to use the straight piece that’s longer than your hair as the guide for keeping the hair straight. But I see where it’s really easy to winde that yarn around with the hair. On the other side this could be a great method for ringlets as well. But the small sections really are key. Like if I were doing your hair like this at the shop each one of your sections I would have made eight box sections out of to give the hair the greatest chance of straightening. That’s the hard part with natural curl. I really wish biologe still made there lock down spray. It’s the only spray that works for humidity. Also my curly hair secret is using a mens one hundred percent cotton tee shirt in size xl as the only material i use to dry my hair. It isn’t as rough on the hair and doesn’t cause friz. but it has to be tee shirt material. Which also made me think maybe one hundred percent Cotten yarn might have been a better choice than the acrylic which can make the hair frizzy. But I’m an avid crocheter so….. can never have enough yarn.

Loved this video! Is this Vivianna's rendition of "Tomorrow" from the Annie musical? 2:27 - Also, your hair kinda looked like box braids when you had the yarn it. I thought it looked cute and you were totally right to save it for a couple of days. The after style that was mostly straight looked good, too! Honestly, I think this kind of style would be a great DIY one to do on little kids if people struggle with braiding (though a head full of basic, non-corn-rowed braids would be easier).

I mean I've got mostly naturally straight hair and even when I straightened my hair with straighteners I'd still end up with a slight curl at the bottom. Its one of the reason why I stopped using them because it created an uneven look and I could get that without the effort by not bothering to use them at all! I don't know how anyone gets perfectly straightened hair and given that you have coils/frizz to work with I think this method did an impressive job. And I'm once again impressed by the way textured hair can create such interesting structural styles. I love how many ways you can work it to create art basically. And your videos are great at showing the amount of time and effort that goes into these kinds of styles. I've given up with trying anything with my hair as its just resistant to any and all attempts to make it do anything interesting and a photo of one of my great great grandmothers who existed in a fancy hairdo era of the late Victorian/Early Edwardian era just cemented it all for me because she had the exact same baby fine hair texture and she did not manage the fancy hairdos herself. Nope. Her hair looked just like mine. Boring and plain. Ha ha. So now I just rock my boring hair as at least its low effort you know?

I love doing this to my hair it gets so straight. You will love it. Your ends will be straighter once the split ends are removed.

Hey Vic new subscriber here. Thanks for all vids. I just want to tell you watch Utube. It took me 7 tries to give you a thumbs up. It kept registering as thumbs down.
