Counter point to the backstory part: Her father was killed by the Gorosei and IMU. She is a wanted woman and she was "captured" by Sabo. So her country that she holds so highly is in disarray. I feel like that counts as a backstory and dream.

Dang that prosecutor had free reign all over that case. Straw Hat status aside I argue she still an impact for more than that one instance on the ship where she chewed him out for endangering his own crew. It lead to him going extra with climbing the moutain with sanji & Nami and more importantly considering even the safety of other nonstrawhat members over own wants or needs in Amazon Lily, where he was given an ultimatum of choosing a ship to leave the island or have the three friendly amazaons that helped him get in petrified, he chose the second without question. An earlier Luffy would have chosen the first option if he had not learned that lesson from Vivi. He learned to turn the other cheek too because of this because it also reinforced what Shanks was trying to tell & instill in to him in Romance Dawn, hence why he did not lash out Bellamy initially in Mock Town as well. Yes Luffy is naturally good natured, but he also has a tendency for impulsesive tunnel vision. Thankfully moments like these helped steer his drive into more manageable means. Well manageable for Luffy.

​@@MokerJaniacI commented before watching the video and after finishing it I have to say it's a really good video and you've made some good points but I still disagree Jinbei doesn't have a sad backstory, that was the story of all fishmen not his particular story Vivi being invited wasn't a gag like the zombies and she was called nakama while she was on the ship unlike momo and Yamato and then when she left she was told she can be nakama again later and that yes is like momo and Yamato but unlike them she did consider herself a pirate for a while, when we see her post time skip her retainers say she was a pirate in the past so she was a strawhat but she's on hiatus Momo and kin didn't consider themselves pirates when they were with the strawhats but if they want to later they can All the strawhats at the time had a bond with vivi unlike Yamato Law was already a pirate with his own crew And none of these characters' relationship to the strawhats was given focus, unlike vivi whose entire arc was about friendship with them You can't deny that oda frames her relationship to the strawhats in a way that's different from any other ally or friend they've met after her that's why so many people say she's an honorary strawhat

She is definitely a honorary member but i think most of your points fail in this argument about her being a actual crew mate. From the criteria you mentioned she is the only one that meets more that one, she was invited, she spent time on the ship, has a tragic backstory *, you dismiss her being a dyplomat but she could be very useful and have some interesting plotlines. (About the back stories and dreams, luffy doesn't have a sad past, usopp's is sad as an orphan but other that that he had a supportive village that cared about him, same for zoro, him friend died but had a supportive background, vivy is kinda similar to nami, joining an evil organisation after her mother died to save her village/ country. About the dream i would say is to explore but we don't need a clear answer to that, Luffy's dream is not to be the pirate king, that is just the way for him to achieve it.

Vivi is to a strawhat because Luffy and the others have said so. She may not be an official strawhat, but she is an honorary one. Honorary or not, Luffy and the others had declared that she was one of them and that she always would be. She even asked them that when they met if she could officially join their crew, and they said yes. So don't go treating her like she is just some random person that they saved. You guys can say all the time that she isn't a strawhat but I disagree and I'm pretty sure that if Luffy was a real person and he heard you say that about Vivi he would more than likely get mad and want to punch the crap out of you. Luffy is the one who gets to say who is strawhat, not us.

Tbh I don’t think it really matters whether or not Vivi fits any requirements of any kind. Being a Strawhat has nothing to do with time on the crew, filling our roles, or what’s been literally said by the captain or crew, but rather the emotional bonds between crewmates. Vivi being a Strawhat has nothing to do with her officially being a member, but everything to do with her simply being _one of them._ Being part of their _family,_ because fundamentally, that’s what the Strawhat Pirates are. Vivi’s a Strawhat because it just feels right.

I’ll be real I didn’t engage with the fandom until I was caught up in 2022. And seeing everyone claiming the girl from Alabastor as a genuine possible crew member almost a thousand chapters later threw me a bit. I like Vivi a lot, her character and role in the story where and are great. She is a great ALLY and FRIEND to the crew but to me she isn’t anything more. To put it bluntly her arc as a pirate or active associate with the crew is over. She would add nothing to the crew. Hell, Bon Clay is a more logical character to join due to their skill and backstory and sacrifices for Luffy (plus they are a far cooler character don’t @ me). So to TLDR, Vivi never was a crew member to me and I never agreed with the portion of the fandom that thought she was or could become one. Though I do like her. Great video btw, short, sweet, fun as hell.

@nathandaniels20 Because for one; her existence as a princess is lazily done and weak with how she was clearly just another nothing villain before Oda decided to make her the princess of a kingdom we just learned about. She was willing to kill Laboon before which isn't in line with her actual character and personality that she has afterwards And she's just boring and not interesting. Ohhh she wants to save her kingdom. So? There are tons of noble and good hearted characters in the story that have actual depth to them and aren't just a blank slate like Vivi. She legit feels like a character from an actually poorly written shonen manga, not a One Piece character. She doesn't do anything interesting and is pathetic. Nothing she says is poignant or emotional like a character like Hiriluk who isn't powerful either and is shunned by everyone around him, called a lunatic, and his lack of any medical expertise is pointed out by other characters but regardless of all that, he continues to try and achieve his dream until he actually does despite no one but Chopper, Kureha, and Dalton believing in him. The values he teaches Chopper, the fact he's happy there weren't any actual people suffering from an illness when Wapol said so, his last moments in the story when he dies, and him chasing off Chopper for Chopper's own good despite him loving him and not wanting to be mean to him is interesting and layered. Vivi has none of that. It's just ohhh look at how noble she is! She really really really really REALLYYYY wants to stop the war!! What an amazing character she is for not wanting there to be a war! Wow... that's so unique and interesting. Yawn. Vivi is propped up as this big emotional character we should care about but she doesn't do anything warrant or earn it. Only thing she did that I liked was when she showed Luffy that fighting isn't always the answer, like she did in Drum. The only thing she every did outside of Alabasta(and that's not saying much since she didn't do much in her own kingdom anyway). Kouza, his dad, Cobra were characters I enjoyed much more because of how Oda wrote then and what he made them do in the story. A character being powerful is the last thing I care about. I care that they're interesting and well written, even if they don't have much panel time in the story. Vivi isn't well written or interesting and is one of the characters with the most panel time in the story

Attractive characters get tons of love and fans merely for the fact people are attracted to them, regardless of how vapid the character is in every other department. And Vivi is a perfect example of that. Way to focus on 1 point amongst everything I said and make it about another character instead of focusing on Vivi
