In this video, we are going to demonstrate the installation of the Vivid 360 pool and spa plug kit.
Determining whether an existing cable is viable is critical. An existing cable is not viable if the outer jacket is out of round or damaged (show an example of bad cord and good cord), has signs of water intrusion, or has corroded copper wiring. In the absence of any visible damage, testing the cable’s resistance is a good way to confirm that a cable is viable. This is accomplished by detaching the black and white wires at the power source, wire nutting them together, then testing the black and white wires at the termination point using a multimeter tester. You can visit our website, and follow the links to Resources, Tech. Documents, and Electrical Spec sheet to view the maximum Ohm ratings of all Blue Square lights. If the Ohm reading exceeds the number on our spec. sheet, then cord replacement is required.
The basic tools you will need for your installation are a #1 Phillips screwdriver and wire strippers. Also, have a tube of pool lube.
First, you will prepare the cable for installation by removing a half inch of the outer jacket with your wire strippers. If your cord has three conductors (white, black, and green) remove the green conductor by cutting it off close to the outer jacket. Strip one-quarter of an inch of the remaining black and white wires.
These are the components provided in the Vivid 360 pool and spa plug kit. There are multiple sizes of several components in the bag, including two clamps, two sets of thrust washers, and four colored grommets. The kit also comes with a pool mounting bracket and a spa connector nut. The thickness of the cable will determine which components you will use.
Now that you have chosen which components best fit the cable, begin by sliding on the FTA clamp nut, wing side first. Next, you will choose a big grey thrust washer that best fits the cord, placing the beveled edge facing the clamp nut. The next fitting is going to be the rubber grommet. There are four colors which all have different hole sizes. The proper grommet to use will require using your index fingers on both hands to move on the cable. You should not be able to install it with one hand. You can use a small amount of pool lube to make it easier to install. Next, you will slide on the small thrust washer with the beveled edge facing the end of the cable. The kit includes a triangular bracket for a pool light and a threaded connector for spa light. Place the proper connector on the cable. The next item to install is the connector housing with the MTA side going on first.
The terminal wire connector is next. Tightly twist the copper on both wires to cleanly slide into the terminals with no stray strands. Using your Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the screws and connect your wires. Upon tightening down the screws, lightly tug on the connector to ensure a secured connection has been achieved. This is how your cable should look before advancing to the next step.
There is a channel between the screws on the wire connector that should match up to a keyway on the connector housing. Push the wire connector into the housing until it is flush with the end of the housing. Apply pressure to the wire connector with your thumb as you pull the thrust washer and grommets down into the connector housing. Make sure the rubber grommet fits inside the connector housing at least halfway to allow the back clamp nut to begin threading onto the connector housing. While still applying pressure to the wire housing, begin threading the clamp nut to the connector making sure the wire connector stays flush. Secure the proper clamp to the clamp nut with the two MTS screws provided. The wire nut should not be able to be turned on the cable once the clamp is installed.
Ensure the o-rings on the plug are free of dirt and dust. Apply a small amount of pool lube on the o-rings. For a pool light, align the small arms on the triangulated bracket with the receivers on the light and insert the plug until both o-rings are fully seated and the arms snap into the receivers. Three stainless screws are provided to screw the adaptor onto the light using the #1 Phillips screwdriver. The bracket should end up flush with the back of the light to ensure a water-tight connection.
For installation on the spa light, align the plug kit with the terminals on the back of the light, and twist the connector nut clockwise onto the light until hand is tight. You have now completed the installation of the Vivid pool and spa plug kit.
