Vivitar Series 1 35-85mm: A Formidable Lens for Any Photographer - Camera Talk

The Vivitar Series 1 lenses hoped to change people's opinions when it came to third-party options. The 35-85mm variable-focus lens used a complex mechanical design and had very good performance for its time.

This lens still performs well today, but there are better choices available. Because of its size and weight, it's not going to be a great choice for small mirrorless cameras. I had a Vivtar Series 1 28 - 90mm f2.8-3.5 zoom lens in the late 80’s early 90’s. It was a great lens that I used all of the time on my Nikon F and F2. I recall one issue where one of the screws came out of the metal saddle that connects the aperture ring to the photomic head. I fixed it with a screw from an eyeglass repair kit. I also recall wanting the Series 1 28 - 105mm zoom, but at the time, I couldn’t afford one, so I got the one with the lesser zoom range. Thank you for posting. We enjoy your content!

I bought this lens last year for mirrorless adaptation. I also want a SLR to go with it. Would this work with a Nikon FM?

As long as you bought it in the Nikon F AI mount, you should be fine. I used this sometimes with the Nikon FE, which is very similar to the FM.
