*BSP Rating: 8.5/10* Although made for Jungle, Swamp and Delta environments, this boot would additionally excel in rugged dry, and/or hot climates like deserts or mountains. Though the thicker ESC sole does detract from ground feel and flexibility, it provides a high level of puncture protection and greater comfort over longer distances. Ground feel: 5/10 Toe-box: 8.5/10 Flexibility: 7/10 Ventilation: 9/10 Drainage: 8/10 Durability: 9/10 Grip: 9/10

I recently used mine in the Brazilian jungle and loved them. A bige game chaner is gettin rid of those stiff laces and replacing them with more supple paracord. Makes them 10x faster to take on and off and more comfortable.

Did you just go for some run of the mill paracord or a specific laced version? Would be interested to know as considering a similar mod!

Hey thanks for this. I have been using these boots now for a good week during lao rainy season, easy jungle walks but very wet. I agree with most of your comments (outsole, durability, stability etc.) and I do agree that they really don't let all the water out. Thats a big problem if you're hiking for 5hours plus.. with high humidity and perhaps sleeping outdoor basically they are always wet. They perform outstanding in highly muddy and slippery tracks but youll basically walk wet all the time. I really wander if on multiple days tracking they may end up compromising your feet.

Thank you for making these videos! I'm in the process of transitioning to barefoot shoes, and your content has been invaluable in helping me understand the importance of foot health and selecting the right shoes. I work in a formal industry, so it has been tricky, but your videos have made the transition much easier. Keep it up!

Excited they've finally released a vegan boot with the michelin sole as I've been waiting for a rugged vegan barefoot hiking boot for years. Unfortunately not really suitable for the more temperate parts of the world where wet feet mean freezing feet most of the year. If I lived nearer the equator it would be perfect.
@TheBarefootStrengthProject
@TheBarefootStrengthProject 3 ай бұрын
I agree, definitely not a year round boot for anyone living too far north (or south!). I'd say their limit would be 10 degrees C with minimal water crossings, any colder and they wouldn't dry and you'd have a pretty miserable time of it 😆

I’ll never understand the hard desire some people have for vegan clothing. The plastics are way worse for the environment than wools, and even worse than minimally fucked with leathers as the plastics won’t break down.
@georgehornsby2075
@georgehornsby2075 3 ай бұрын
@@Walkerxy I assume it is mainly vegans who have a desire for vegan clothing since they don't want to financially support the animal agriculture industry. It is more of an animal welfare concern than an environmental concern. That being said vivobarefoot shoes use recycled plastic and the average western plastic use is 150kg per year. A hundred grams or two in a pair shoes which will last you 5 years is a minuscule amount of plastic in comparison. Leather also has some significant environmental impacts also even if you ignore the cows' impact. Tanneries are a huge source of pollution in the 3rd world releasing 200+ chemicals into the environment with negative impacts on human health. The leather they produce is usually non-recyclable and if it contains chromium as 90+% of leather does it doesn't biodegrade. I know you said you'd never understand but hopefully you do somewhat now.
@Walkerxy
@Walkerxy 3 ай бұрын
@@georgehornsby2075 oh I know it’s vegans, I just don’t get the desire because plastics are just objectively worse for the environment aka, animals down stream. I know really chemically laden leathers are bad too, that’s why I said minimally fucked with. But the leathers also tend to last longer than synthetics. So you could get a good 10-15 years in leather ones especially with stitches soles which is a huge win for the whole ESC line.
@georgehornsby2075
@georgehornsby2075 3 ай бұрын
@@Walkerxy I'm not sure objectively means what you think it means. There are pros and cons to using either leather or plastic and which has a greater net cost to the environment will depend on the specific sourcing and deployment and how you subjectively rate different environmental harms. I also think you don't really want to understand and just want to maintain your current point of view.

Nice field test. Were the rocks in the river mossy-slimy? Even If not man-made a slimy riverbed is the most slippery thing after ice. I use felt soled boots for wading/fishing. They are very good on slippery river beds but awful at hiking. These sound like a good compromise if they deliver on those rocks.

Not to be cynical, but the point of draining is to prevent trench foot conditions. But this still causes you to walk around with your foot soaked, so what is the point?

In a jungle environment, you’ll most likely walk through water above the height of your boots. If you have waterproof boots, they will fill up with water and retain it like a cup. The point of jungle boots is to accept that your feet are going to be wet while preventing your boots from being fish tanks.
@jockneyranger
@jockneyranger 15 күн бұрын
This would really only be an issue if you don’t take care of your feet at the end of the day. Once the day is over, boots & socks off, air dry, towel dry and apply talc. Then dry socks on next day and go again. You’ll really only have problems if you don’t invest in decent socks (just as important) and are lazy in your care admin. Having hiked all thru Scotland with shoes of a similar ilk and never suffered so much as a blister, this really isn’t a concern.

how did the exoskeleton work for shifting gears on the bike? does it hurt the toes like in normal shoes?
@TheBarefootStrengthProject
@TheBarefootStrengthProject 3 ай бұрын
Not at all, the exoskeleton dissipated the usual pressure you get on the toe joint which made a nice change! That said it's only a 200cc so shifting is fairly chilled compared to some of my other bikes so I'll have to check on those

@TheBarefootStrengthProject

Very similar but IMO more comfortable over long distance, slightly more supportive and better suited to hard trail environments with the encased upper. I’d use the Hydras for running, these for anything else (in the right environment of course)

So, based off of these outsoles do you have a barefoot shoe/boot suggestion for those of us who actually might walk around on slippery/mossy manmade surfaces such as concrete? Here in my area, we have a lot of approved abandoned sites that allow exploration, and such surfaces aren't that uncommon. Plus, I am lazy and want to go from the forest to the shop and not fall on my butt if I don't change boots. I have Lems Boulder boots waterproof. And Jim Green barefoot. neither of these are any good at all on slick wet flat surfaces! Enjoyed the review btw, as always! Thanks for sharing and for any help you may be able to offer.

They actually got a lot better as the day went on and had my motorbike not shat itself on the way back down I would've updated that point. It'll take a few km's but once the factory finish is worn off they stick as well as anything I've worn. Other options would be the Tracker Forest ESC and the Hydra ESC which both use the same sole just with a slightly different pattern style.
