I'm a Professional Engineer with 24 years of experience. I put myself through engineering college as an electrician. I have done a lot of basic electronic repair thru the years and I can tell you this - you, who made this video, are very professional at what you do and I was pleased to watch your expertise in action. Not to mention, you helped me repair my Vizio. Thanks so much!

Success!! Found the bad fuse and ordered 3 replacements in case I messed things up. As my soldering skills are beyond rusty, I cheated and soldered a piece of wire to each end of the new fuse, and soldered the other ends to the original fuse. Powered up and shut down with no problems. Without your video the TV would have gone to my local electronic/hazardous waste site, instead it will be put to good use. Thank You!!

Ive been working on tv's for 20 years and for the problem with backlights but no display and no power off I've been ordering the entire main board. Thanks for the lesson. Now I can save myself and my customers some money. Also love those videos on repairing those sony optical blocks. Thanks again. Rob (BigDog TV & Electronics) / Chicago

You are the man! I am an old tech-turned-engineer, but without your video I would not have had the confidence to fix my 47" Visio. You saved me a bunch of bucks! I was fortunate that mine only took the fuse to become fully operational. I only have a pencil tip iron, so I was unable to unsolder the bad fuse, but I just piggybacked the new one and I am back up and running with a $1.15 part! Giving us the DigiKey part numbers is extremely helpful! Thank you so much for your help! My only suggestion for improvement would be a companion video about exactly how to break down the case and where each type of screw goes where. Since there are so many screws and this thing is so heavy, a noob might fix it, but then break the TV by handling it, supporting it, opening it or closing it incorrectly. Thanks again!

I know it's been some time since your original post, but I wanted to say I agree with your sentiment about keeping more of these out of the trash. And in general, most electronics. Mines and there contents are finite resources and soon enough they will be mining old trash dumps for discarded boards from every type of appliance made. Thanks for making and posting! Replaced fuse in my 2007 Vizio and it's 10 years old. I like new and shiny tech as much as the next guy but I dislike waste and love getting things back in service.

Thanks Norcal715 your video helped me fix my TV just in time to watch the Kings game. ;-) I could not bring myself to pay $120 to have $10 worth of parts shipped overnight Saturday delivery, so I improvised. I bought a 1.5A fast blow glass fuse, soldered leads to it and shrink wrapped it. Then soldered the leads to the surface mount pads. I had planned to have this be a temporary work around but it looks and works great. Thanks Again Norcal715 you are doing great work!

Hi Norcal, I can't tell you how thankful I am that you make these videos so easy to follow and understand. I really appreciate that you take time out of your life and share your knowledge for free. I have one question in regards to the video on the Vizio GV47LFHDTV10A. Your fuses(from rt. to lf.) a 1.5A, 4A & 3A but mine are 1.5A, 1.5A & 3A. Any idea as to why they would be so different? Could the overall low amperage be an additional problem. I've had this tv for 6yrs. and this is the first problem I ever had with it. Thank you for your time and take care. Kirk

I have no ability to solder anything, but I've already pulled the back off this same set and I'm certain I have the ability to change a board or two without any difficulty. While I don't have a digital meter, I do have a basic voltage meter. That said, I can tell you that when the set is plugged in the amber keypad lights come on, and if you press the power button the set clicks as if to turn on, however the screen does not light up, there's no sound or blue screen, nor will it power off by pressing power again, you have to unplug it to turn it off. Using my voltage meter I get readings only on the left side (cold side-i think you called it in another video) of the power supply and the center part too, but not on the right side (hot side) under the metal bracket where there are large capacitors and no power present on the pins that go to the wiring bundles that fan out to the main board, master and slave boards. And I get no reading on any other boards at all. I should mention that when the set failed it made one light popping sound. I see no bulging or ruptured capacitors on the power supply board like you mentioned in another video or on any of the boards for that matter. I took off the power supply board and see no signs of scorching on the underside either. Long before the TV went out the digital tuner went out, but I didn't discover that until hurricane sandy hit me on the Jersey Shore and the cable was out for several weeks. At any rate, to me this seems like a power supply board problem and changing that out for $45 on eBay seems worth it, but I'm unsure given that the amber lights do come on. In your opinion might this be a main board problem instead or does it seem like I should start by swapping out the power supply board? Thank you for your videos, time and effort and for any help you or others reply with.

Thank you for the lessons, they are so helpful. I have a 42" vizeo that has this exact problem, powers up but no backlight and wont turn off. I have a bad regulator it has a low output. My board only has 2 fuses instead of 3, one shows 5 volts and the other 12 volts. As I was checking volts on a larger regulator, I arched it and blew the 12 volt fuse. The back light now comes on and I can shut the tv on and off, but there is no picture. I'm going to replace the fuse and regulator, hope it works

Do you think this was a power surge? any way for me to determine what is not working any chance I can fix it? thanks a lot for any info you can give, thanks James

The meter is a true rms but that does not apply to DC voltages it only comes into play when measuring AC, and as far as checking fuses either they are good and have continuity or they are open. as far as checking the regulators, there are too many variables involved in explaning how to check them all. as far as seeing I just use a good pair of reading glasses, and yes a fine tip. Thanks

I have a Vizio VP50 HDTV20A plasma with a blown 8A fuse. I replaced the fuse and the TV is functioning normally again. I've read that one of the two 8A fuses is prone to blow in these TVs. Do you have any idea of a typical failure point that would cause a blown fuse in these TVs, or is it just that cheap fuses were used?

Your videos on the Vizio TVs are great. Have you had many Vizio TV suffer from freezing up while the TV is on? I have come across several TV of this series that would freeze up. Power cycling the TV will temporary fix the issue but it would happen again with no set time. So far I have a 37 inch and a 47 inch suffering from this problem. I know it is related to the main board but not sure what is causing this freezing up. Is it a firmware issue or defective flash memory chip?

Woo! Thank you for this, it fixed my TV picture under all inputs, only now there's no sound on any input I've tried. The speakers are ON in the audio settings under the menu settings, but I'm not getting anything. Do you know what the issue could be? Because it's not working on ANY input at all, it leads me to believe it's a fuse or something like that.

I am trying to fix the exactly same model with exactly the same symptom of this video (Vzio GV42L fgdtv10a) All the measurement are you are explaining in this video are ok as far as i can tell so still not sure where my problem is. From one of your other video 'Voltage and troubleshooting" you mention pin 13 &14 to converter box. I do not have any current on those pin. Could this be the problem? If so, i do i fix this? Is there one of your amazing video telling me how to do it. I will love to keep my Vizio out of a landfill. Thank you! If you are located in SO Cal you can even make another video out of my TV ;-)
