This recital is wonderful on so many levels. The vertical white on white shirt and socks a great touch. The Quint 3’ is a real bonus. Very nicely done, Balint. This is what students should study, striving for technique, interpretation, patience, timing and registration. Are we not all students?

Great to hear this work played with the fine articulation one would expect from a great harpsichordist on the organ. Not to mention the kind of detail that Leonhardt or Harnoncourt would have given us in cantata performances. Thanks, Balint, for another illuminating and exceptional performance. One should also mention (via the magic of the split-screen) the effortless Baroque pedal technique, which proves the almost exclusive use of toes (an exception being such chromatic passages as the opening of BWV 648, an arrangement of a movement from Cantata BWV 10, where heels are useful for adjacent chromatic notes) as the most sensitive way to articulate with the same sensitivity as one would using the fingers on the keyboard, with no loss of facility. These performances have the ring of real authenticity about them, in the best sense of giving us Bach unfiltered.

Any nearby sheep had to be ecstatic if they heard the first chorale. More from that marvelous organ. Balint found a real gem there. He should go back and record a Bach CD on it. I can make one with my computer, but would want the best possible sound. From Chicago. U.S.A.

Personally, I am impressed by the restrained and even manner of performance, which is especially characteristic of Bach's choral preludes. Emotion is conveyed by expressive means, by endurance presentation of the musical fabric of the works.

This cycle has to be listened to a few times to really get the sense of what has been accomplished. As good as my references in a rather large collection of Bach's organ music. Very well presented Balint. A perfect choice of instrument, acoustic and registration. Crowned with masterful playing that is truly a reference for others to try and achieve.

Ahhh... the great chorale of BWV645! Very well played...I love the styling! My wife, Zoe, and I had this as the bridal party procession at our wedding. We loved the connection between being called to "Wake!" for the Bridegroom coming for His bride, the Church. Plus it was a nice reminder for the congregation to "Wake!" as we had a morning wedding =)

in my opinion wachet auf is played as often unfortunatly little bit to fast :-( it is a text and a work with deep spirituality and mystic and not a thing for a figth who play it most fast. but its the only thing. ist also well played :-) for wo soll ich fliehen hin the tempo is more than perfect :-) BWV 647 is WER nur den lieben Gott - i think....
@magnusgro43664 жыл бұрын
I couldn't disagree more. "Wachet auf" translates to "wake up", it is not meant to be a lullaby, very much the opposite. I quite like the virtuosic interpretation. I don't even think Balint is playing this particularly fast.

Ein kleiner Fehler, aber Sie haben Recht. Das richtige Wort ist "nur", nicht "nun".
@karlrovey Жыл бұрын
Given that it's a transcription where the melody was originally sung, this tempo is appropriate. It needs to be fast enough that you can get through the cactus firms phrases without running out of breath.

It's a hymn tune for a congregation to sing, ornamental accompanied by upper hand ornament probably composed at Bach's two manual pedal harpsichord..in his warm house. We students at Oberlin used to put words to the countrapuntal accompanient...
