Brass playing at its finest. To be a bit vulnerable I have been struggling, both professionally and personally, lately. I turn to this often to help calm me down, and remember that there are beautiful things in this world. Thank you Barclay Brass for using your talents and the fruits of your hard work in this way.

@@danimator9067 Borrow a flugelhorn and do it! Convince your organist to learn the obbligato part and plan to play it December 1st. The broader tone of the horn will be a bit more pleasing than the trumpet - though no disparagement of the trumpet. It doesn’t have to be perfect. You and your fellow parishioners will be blessed by the Advent message on that 1st Sunday of Advent. Best wishes! If you can’t find the music, let me know and I’ll try to help.

There is no one like Bach. Everything he composed always gives me goosebumps.
@charlesmoore17622 ай бұрын
@@elliotwerner4973 I agree, but keep in mind that Bach composed this “setting” of Sleepers Awake. The hymn itself predates Bach by almost a century. It was composed - “Philipp Nicolai wrote the hymn in 1598” (Wikipedia). Bach’s genius in combining the hymn tune with the hypnotic obbligato has made BWV 645 one of the most “hummed” of all sacred tunes.

I must be coming on my 100th viewing of this video. If a young person wanted to study phrasing, especially across extended arcs and how to let a piece develop slowly to an absolute climax, this is the performance. I've never heard a better example of that than this vid.

I make it a habit to listen to at least one Barclay Brass upload each week, as I am fatally addicted to Bach on brass. All of David Miller's Bach transcriptions are great, but this one, in my opinion, is by far his best, and one of the best I've heard to date of this piece. The weaving in and out of the "voices" as the music builds in intensity produces what I think is a truly unique performance. As for that powerful ending chord, the flawless intonation and the octave spread (thanks to the piccolo trumpet sitting high above the tuba) produce an organ-like sound that cannot be explained, only appreciated. ☻

Hello Nicola. That's just plain silly ❣️. What would this piece of music, this arrangement be without the body of sound of the other voices⁉️. It would just be a few, admittedly high notes. In a quiz on a YMCA evening, the question could then be: which church piece of music is it? Aber ich weiß natürlich, wie Du es meinst (lol) 😎.
