And it was nerfed in a way that didn't even affect what made it broken. Power-Up Punch still gave it +2, other moves with secondary effects still had doubled rolls, and Seismic Toss still wasn't affected by the damage decrease and continued doing 200 damage flat. So Mega Kangaskhan still dominated VGC throughout all of Gen 7 and had a usage rate higher than Mega Mewtwo X's in Smogon Ubers. Same with how Aerilate was a 30% boost in Gen 6, which got nerfed to a 20% boost in Gen 7. The biggest hit was Alolan Golem, whose ability had to fall in line as well when it could have really used the extra power. The actual Aerilate users in Mega Salamence and Mega Pinsir didn't care because just having Flying-type STAB, let alone Flying-type STAB off of really good Normal type staples, was enough for them.

Damage is a nice bonus but what it really does is invalidate focus sashes, allows you to put pressure on substitute sets after breaking subs, turns power up punch into an attacking swords dance, seismic toss is guaranteed 200hp of damage and nearly doubles the chance of secondary effects to happen such as body slam now has a 50% to paralyze crush claw has 70% drop defense by 1 stage and a 20% to drop by 2 stages.

​@@tuskact4425Power Up Punch wasn't the reason it was banned, Seismic Toss was A clean 200 damage on every non Ghost was insane with not much counter play, most walls can outright be 2HKO by that with rocks up with no real way around that other than being a Ghost type (there weren't that many viable Ghost in XY besides Aegislash which was smacked hard by EQ) or having a massive HP pool, but those mons weren't Kangashkan answer regardless (you wouldn't consider Blissey or Wailord to counter Kangashkan as they falter to every other move, and Chansey is the definition of the Power Up Punching bag ). Kangashkan was just extremely restricting when it comes to defensive counter play, the fact it had basically a built in Serene Grace on top of it meaning Body Slam was very risky for offensive mons to switch into was just the cherry on top

Kangaskhan already gets Seismic toss though, and SD or Bulk Up is far outclassed by PuP because youre doing damage while getting 2 boosts. SD is +2 but you dont attack which could net you a safer set up in many situations, and bulk up is just +1 +1 because the baby doesnt boost from set up moves.

I think the mother didn’t get a design change because they’re naturally strong. The stat boost is nothing but the mom not being weighed down by the baby. Probably saying that they’re strong enough as they are without a baby and don’t need to mega evolve
