I love Beckett's reactions in the scene with Will and Davy Jones. He clearly knows a lot more than he's letting on, or he's that good at paying attention that he's able to anticipate a lot farther ahead than most great strategists. Of course, Jack's seeming unpredictability is what ultimately leads to his demise, but that scene hinestly sealed Beckett as one of the greatest characters in the series.

I think its the fact that Beckett, not even once, ever loses his temper or lashes out. He's ALWAYS cool and calm, even when things are going to crap. Its not something you usually see in the big bad of a series like this. Without him really having to physically do anything to anyone he manages to be intimidating

Norrington is probably the most honorable person in the entire series lol. I saw this trilogy in theaters and I can confirm it was amazing! One of my favorite movie going experiences was watching these films. The next one isn't bad but it takes a departure from what we have come to love. Not so many familiar faces but i still like it. The final film however is absolutely fantastic and ties everything up perfectly so I cant wait until you experience that one!

Fun fact: The two ships battling pearl and dutchman were an ACTUAL SET. Yes look it up, it is one of the biggest physical movie setpieces ever made. Otherwise, a lot of people keep hating on this movie for being too long but it is a top Tier way to end the Will & Elizabeth Saga in my opinion. Also the beginning scene is a Statement. Back when disney had Guts and was not afraid to go dark with the subject matter. ... because that's what reality was when the british Dealt with the Pirates back then.

As mentioned by someone else, Keith Richards (who plays Captain Teague) was the inspiration for Johnny Depp's portrayal of Jack, so to see Richards himself in this franchise as Jack's father is awesome! Edit: You didn't miss anything regarding Jack's parents. And anyway, Captain Teague is seen only in two films in the entire franchise, so... 2nd edit: 42:55 to 42:57 - I don't think that was Blackbeard. Maybe it was a reference to the real Blackbeard, but I don't know.

I love this trilogy and with some great attention to detail throughout. Small things coming back full circle like When we meet Jack in the first film he's in a small row boat. The last we see of Jack is in a similar small row boat. Elizabeth knowing a captain could marry couples on a ship because Jack told her he could preform a marriage in Dead Mans Chest. The one that took me a while to notice because its very subtle and quick, is Will gets stabbed by the very same sword he made for Norrington in the first film. Also when Tia Dalma meets Will she tells him there is a touch of destiny about you. Which hints at him becoming Captain of the Flying Dutchman no matter what. Oh and Master Gibbs ending up back in Tortuga and Barbossa the Captain of The Black Pearl where they both started in The Curse of the Black Pearl. One of the last truly great trilogies.

At 42:45 where you said you recognised the guys on the right is one of my favourite touches of the movies. These 2 guys from the Royal Navy are from the first movie when they try to stop Jack from commandeering a ship at Port Royal and start arguing amongst themselves. They were the ones guarding the chest on the Dutchman and attempted to board the Black Pearl during the final fight where they slammed into the side of it instead of landing on the deck. They ended up ditching their uniforms and dressed as pirates and so joined the crew of the Black Pearl. Very underrated little background character arc in my opinion

Ive said it before and I'll say it again - A. The SCORE to this film is GOD TIER! Seriously the combination of themes coming together after the first two film's, the swelling battle themes . . .Jacks theme getting a much needed and welcomed expansion. B - Yes its a LONG sit and yes its complicated but the plot is very clever and fun to just roll with. C. The makeup/SFX overall still look AMAZING! D. The final battle - with the sweeping camera moves from and around the ship as shit blows up - WOW! Watched this on the big screen when it came out. Packed theater - gotta remember that we had to wait a year or so after the last film to see the conclusion of the story. Course Jack fever was at its last great peak, the cast is amazing, Barbarossa / Jeff is simply fabulous to watch, Norington gets his character saved for both the audience and the characters - the audience reacted like it was a marvel film at the best bits and its a fond memory / cinema experience. Oh the running joke about the nice sword was both funny and sad at its last reference with Jones. So much detail in this film in both the set design and call backs. - seeing all the flags rise with the swell Zimmer gave the pirate clan theme real character - amazing moment the theater (and I!) all cheered! It was like the battle before Thanos or at Helms Deep - Course it was up to the Purl to set the tone and as I said before the battle did NOT disappoint. LOL the "GOOD ONE" joke lol that one was pretty good. I could ramble on for hours here - you guys leave a comment/reply on your favorite call back or joke - / moment ;) Sea Turtles mate ;)

Like I said in the first movie reaction, he in my opinion gets the most character development and changes the most from the beginning of the trilogy to the end of it (yes Trilogy) and that why I would absolutely not wish Elizabeth on him. Elizabeth while strong, capable and adventurous is definitely not a good fit for James. She's too flighty and way too impetuous to be the wife of an Admiral of the British Royal Navy. Also James deserves better, so there. Will can have her. Well he can have her once every ten years, I guess.

I know this is a year old, but the actual scene isn't CGI. Everything was shot in a different manner and stitched together (the soldiers and sailors abandoning ship or getting flung off, Beckett walking down the stairs). The explosions and shrapnel are all real, they legit blew up their model of the ship's deck and it was amazing to watch.

If you want to know more about Jack and Beckett’s previous dealings and their history I highly recommend watching the deleted extended scene where the two of them talk on his ship. It explains how and why Jack got the pirate brand on his arm, and even hints at why the Black Pearl is called that, and why it’s so blackened.

This was initially intended to be the end of the series forever, and the other two don’t quite live up to the original trilogy in my opinion. The next one’s alright as a sort of lower-stakes mini-epilogue though. But I imagine you’ll be pretty disappointed by the lack of returning cast.

Also, that vortex, or whirlpool, whichever you want to call it, is referred to in this movie as a “maelstrom,” however, actual maelstroms, like the Saltstraumen maelstrom, are usually fields of changing flows, resulting in shifting whirlpools growing and shrinking, forming and vanishing, lasting seconds or minutes. Then there are just regular whirlpools, like the ones at Niagara, but all whirlpools found so far don’t affect larger ships nearly as much as video games would make you think. A speedboat can easily outrun the flows of the largest whirlpool, at Niagara on the Lake. If a person were tired, and trying to swim through a whirlpool, that could become deadly, but only the smallest boats (or even a swimmer who is fresh and ready) would struggle at the Saltstraumen maelstrom.

I cannot state enough what a great tragic villain Davy Jones is. He's such a great baddie, both for his appearance and behavior. There's just so much to it that Bill Nighy did to make the character more than a silly over the top cartoon villain. It's quite a great though obvious metaphor of Will literally giving his heart to Elizabeth. I am a sucker for metaphors and that's one of my favorites for sure. And I do love the end credits scene, such a bitter sweet of Will getting to meet his son for the first time and seeing his love after ten years. Gotta appreciate Jack's cunning and determination, even if he's quite mad but has a purpose to his madness.

So the Green Flash is a real thing. Normally our atmosphere scatters mostly blue light. But when the Sun is on the horizon it has to go through so much air that all the blue is scattered out and only the oranges and yellows and reds make it through. On an extremely flat horizon, on a very calm day, with the right humidity, just as the sun goes below the horizon there will be a burst of green, light bent by the atmosphere from over the horizon. There are plenty of photos and videos of it. It's not as dramatic as the film makes it, but it is very cool.

Especially since they look similar. 38:22 Jack was smart there getting Jones to show him where the key is. You first saw them in the first one debating with Jack about the Black Pearl and saving Elizabeth from drowning. They were the British version of the pirate with the wooden eye and his buddy. 39:25 I love that. When I was 8 or 9 and my sister was 6 or 7 my dad build a trailer he used as he was fixing the yard in our new house. The house was in a brand new development so we had no grass and no fence when we moved in, so dad needed a trailer. He decided to let my sister and me choose the color and we chose this amazing, shockingly bright neon green. It was the late 1970's. This trailer was so bright green you'd swear it glowed by it's own light. Our next door neighbor's wife was English and she pretended to be extremely posh even though he husband managed the local hardware store. They were not poor, but they were, we all were strongly grounded in what they might call the "working class" She said of the trailer, with a very snooty tone, that it "offended the finer senses" and this delighted us to no end. To this day, nearly 50 years later, any time we encounter something that is even a bit unsavory, that it offends the finer senses. Eventually dad's need for the trailer went away and he sold it to a guy with a landscaping business. He loved the trailer as it was very well built, and the trailer he had before was wrecked when someone crashed into it when they failed to see it. I'd see the trailer from time to time over the next 25 or so years, filled with garden tools. I even met the guy who got it from my dad when we were getting gas at the same time. I told him the back story and why it was that color. He said the color was what he really wanted the trailer for so no one could say they didn't see it. He said he realized how well it was built only after he bought it.

I saw this movie opening night at a midnight showing, dressed up as Jack, and loved it so much that as soon as it ended, I got up, went to the box office, and paid for another ticket to see it a second time. It's such a marvelous ending to the trilogy. The next two are fun if you want to see more of Jack Sparrow (and who doesn't), but they don't reach the same highs in my eyes. To answer your question about the pirate obsessed with the code, he is not Blackbeard (a real pirate btw, actual name Edward Teach), that's Captain Teague, played by the one and only Keith Richards. The character is Jack Sparrow's father, fitting since Johnny Depp cites Keith as one of the main inspirations for Jack, the other being the Looney Tune character Pepe La Pew. It also explains why he plays guitar after reading from the pirate code, since Keith Richards is the lead guitarist for The Rolling Stones.

I was both very worried and excited to see the deaths of Norrington and the Governor. I'm sad there were so many deleted scenes about them (for example their reactions to Elizabeth's presumed death.) James especially deserved so much better. I always rooted for Sparrabeth, but Norrabeth would've been very interesting to explore as well. The fate of Will and Elizabeth is tragic in a bittersweet way, though. I still remember the shock of seeing Will "die" for the first time. The love story between Calypso and Davy Jones breaks my heart (no pun intended). The scene between them is one of my favorites during the series. And I love how "Hoist the Colors" tells the story of them and the Brethren Court. (As a side note I love how worried you are of everyone getting the cold after the fight. :D And Barbossa's "Just kiss!" became such a huge meme for shipping purposes over the years.) It has been great to see you react to "POTC". The first three are hands down the best, but I hope you will enjoy the next ones as well, they definitely their great moments too.

I will always remember that the home media release of this came with an FAQ booklet to try and explain some of the plot points because they realized the general audience couldn't understand what the heck was going on in the movie.

It was indeed a memorable thing, to watch this one in theatres, just as much as DMC. Great parallel between Jones/Calypso and Will/Elizabeth not knowing if they can trust each other. There were two more film after this, but they suffer from losing so many of the characters even if Jack does carry them a ways. You can safely skip them.

So Beckett is actually the leader of the East India Company, its not specifically Great Britain they're fighting as in not the British Navy, they're fighting the East India Companies Navy. Fun fact to this day the Dutch East India Company is the richest Company to ever have existed, though that is different than the British East India Company they were both extrememly powerful and rich.

Under certain air conditions, the air on the horizon can cause a bit of a rainbow effect, where different colors of sunlight get bend up or down. Green light is bend up a little bit, so right after the sun goes under the horizon, a bit of green light can still be seen a bit longer. It doesn't really cause a flash, though. Just a faint green shimmer for a second or two.

love this trilogy! They truly mastered the mix of action, heartfelt moments and a lot of humor. It has some of the best VFX, music, sound, visuals and acting ever. The sequels don't do the name any justice and are just kinda random stuff happening with a pirate theme. I think i'd prefer you to watch pretty much anything else, though i can understand if you want to complete this series. thanks for your great reaction, I'm excited to see what's next :D

Here's your backstory/history. Calypso is a goddess from Greek mythology who was the daughter of the titan, Atlas. In the war between the gods and the titans, she sided with her father. When the gods won the war, her punishment for siding with the titans was that she was never allowed to be with those she loved. For the POTC lore, she and Davy Jones fell in love, but since he was mortal, he would die, so he became the captain of the Flying Dutchman in order to become "immortal", so he could be with her once every 10 years. But because of her punishment, she wasn't allowed to meet with him. He thought she had tricked him into eternal servitude to the Dutchman, so he cut out his heart to avoid feeling the heartbreak and taught the Brethren Court how to seal her power as revenge.

The guy near the end where you said "why does he look really familiar?" That was the two British Guards(the silly pair that had been guarding the chest) and they apparently decided to switch sides at the end. LOL
